He holds 41 units of Competency against the National Pest Management Competency Standards (note that only 3 units are required to achieve a NSW EPA administered pest managers licence). Patrick is a pest and weed control consultant, an horticulturist, tree surgeon, fitter and turner. He holds Certificate 3 and 4 in Urban Pest Management, Certificate 4 in Workplace Training and Assessment.

Termites are a beneficial insect in the bush as they help in the breakdown of organic matter. However, a few species attack timbers in service (in other words structural timber in our homes), causing thousands of dollars worth of damage, generally not covered by home owners insurance. There are over 350 species in Australia with about 30 capable of causing damage to timber in service.
Austrapest deals with borers in structural timbers only. For fumigation of individual pieces of imported furniture for borers - contact your supplier or customs service for more information. Don't worry - the first step is call Austrapest for expert advice. We will recommend an Austrapest Visual Timber Pest Inspection to determine the species, extent of damage, and advice on management.
Wood decay will occur when there is a high level of moisture present. This could be caused from poor ventilation, plumbing leaks or drainage problems. High moisture can also attract other pest problems such as termites, borers, cockroaches and rats, the latter 2 posing significant health risks if left unchecked.
