La Motta's Hairstyling For Men
Website
It all started in Italy over 131 years ago when Joseph's Grandfather Tomaso La Motta started barbering in 1890. In 1924 Tomaso had a son, Giovanni La Motta (Joseph's Father) and passed the trade onto him. Giovanni was only 10 years old when he started barbering and continued his trade for the next 54 years until his retirement in 1988.

Giovanni ( also known as Johnny or John La motta ) emigrated from Italy after World War 2 and settled in Brisbane in 1949. In 1959, after 10 years of working for others he decided to open his own successful Barber Shop on the corner of Wharf and Queen Street, formally known as Empire House. In 1960 Giovanni had a son, Joseph La Motta (Myself) who was born and raised in Brisbane.

I cannot speak more highly of Joseph. His professionalism, skill, and attention to detail as a barber are second to none. When I first entered, we talked through what would be the best haircut for me. His knowledge of different styles made it so much easier to decide. A true expert... I highly recommend any man to get a haircut here.
As a final remark, I want to mention that, for those who may not understand, or are quick to judge, Joseph is a barber specialising for men. If you are a woman looking for a cut, go to a specialist trained in women's cuts.

I walk past this empty barbershop almost every day and decided to see if this particular establishment had anyone in there today, to my luck (but not surprising) no one was in so decided to walk in to ask if he would be able to shave my undercut. To my surprise the response I received was “i dont cut womens hair” which I understand completely - two completely different styles in the approach to cutting which is what the man said as well.
I repeated i was only after an undercut shave but again was met with the same response of “i dont cut women’s hair, there’s a womens hair dresser around

After seeing a couple of negative reviews of this place by chance, thought would weigh in in support of them. The one time I tried this guy thought that his manner was offhand and condescending.. did not bother engaging him in any further conversation, and the haircut was very ordinary and not worth the money. I never went back as there are far better/cheaper haircuts available in CBD/Valley. Can see the guy also has anger control issues by the threatening way he answers negative reviews in all caps. My recommendation is get your haircut elsewhere.

After I had too many bad experiences, I found Joseph.
The only one I trusted in Brisbane.
Tradition, passion, true traditional barber.
Loved to hear his stories while having a haircut, stories about his father and grandfather from Italy.
Thank you Joseph, I trully admire your work.
God Bless you.

A proper barber, last of the few who know the trade. I believe the negative reviews here are false as this guy is a gentleman and we chatted whilst he was cutting my hair. He does a great cut at a fair price and I will be back.

So glad I decided to listen to the positive reviews as Joe gave me the best haircut I've had in Brisbane, significantly better than the franchise barbers in the CBD and cheaper!
Will certainly be back in a few weeks for another trim. Highly recommend.

My husband had long hair and decided to finally get a haircut. He raved about the barber and said it was the best haircut he had ever got in his life!!! I'm not kidding. He did an amazing job with scissors. Not to mention he gave him exactly what he asked for. Can't afford to go back to AU just for a haircut, but we would if we could. Lol!

I have had my hair cut here twice now and I have never been happier. After the first cut, 6 weeks has passed and it still felt great. If you are looking for a skilled, traditional barber, look no further. He is the real deal.

Literally the best barber in Brisbane! Joseph actually takes pride in his haircuts. I have been to quite a few barbers around Brisbane including multiple Jimmy Rod barber shops and the Electric Chair Barbershop. None of them provided me with a quality haircut. Joseph provides a high quality haircut at a fair price and will be my barber of choice in the future.
