The Centre was established by Dr. Nicholas Marlowe, who was trained at The University of Sydney (B.A. Hons.) and The Australian National University (Ph. Dr. Marlowe is a Fellow of the Clinical College of the Australian Psychological Society where he held the positions of Treasurer and Clinical Supervisor for the Psychology and Psychosis Interest Group.
He established the Clinical Psychology program for the Mood Disorders Unit at the Northside Clinic, Sydney in the 1990's. He has conducted teaching and research within the Department of Psychological Medicine at The University of Sydney and at The Australian College of Applied Psychology. He is an accredited specialist with Barcare, N.S.W. Bar Association.

Our approach to therapy is evidence based. We define each of these schools of therapy very broadly so as to incorporate a wide range of evidence-based therapeutic strategies. We also draw upon the Existential and Mindfulness approaches. In this way, we bring a wide range of perspectives to our understanding of the individual and their circumstances.
IPT requires a deep level of trust with a therapist with whom we can carefully analyse our relationships and the processes by which these impact our well-being. We understand ourselves in relation to others. We all become aware of ourselves as separate and unique beings through our relationship with others, beginning with our parents.
Mindfulness is a practice derived from Eastern Philosophy that has recently attracted interest from clinical and research psychologists. It involves meditation and attention focusing strategies that can be very helpful in controlling symptoms of depression and anxiety. Recent research suggests that regular practice of mindfulness can help to prevent the recurrence of depression.
Existentialism is a movement that was begun by Soren Kierkegaard in the 1850's. It was developed further and popularised in post-war France by philosophers such as Jean Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Albert Camus and Maurice Merleau-Ponty who built on the earlier works of Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger.
