Wightons Lawyers is one of the longest serving legal practices in Geelong, established in the 1890's when James Wighton first started practising law in the area. During the 1920s, James Wighton merged with the practice of Allan McDonald and the firm Wighton & McDonald was born. Wighton & McDonald remained as one of Geelong's premier law practices until 2000, when we re-branded to simply 'Wightons Lawyers'.
We are the only firm in Geelong with three accredited specialists in the field of Wills and Estates. We prepare all types of Wills depending on our client's requirements, including Wills that incorporate testamentary trusts and / or special disability trusts. We also prepare mutual will agreements and provide succession planning advice that covers superannuation, trusts and businesses.
Our family law team understand the impact of separation on families, businesses and third parties. Each matter is unique and requires consideration of multiple options to achieve an ideal resolution, which is tailored to our clients' circumstances. We regularly resolve disputes through conciliation and mediation to provide our clients with a cost-effective and timely resolution for family disputes.
In addition to routine conveyancing services for residential, rural and commercial land transfers, we also assist our clients with spousal transfers, related party transactions, and other non-dutiable transactions such as transfers involving family farm or deceased estate exemptions. We are proficient in PEXA and Duties Online.
