Samford Valley Veterinary Hospital was started by Brian and Christeen Sheahan when they moved to Samford in 1974. Back then Samford Valley was still very rural, comprising mostly dairy farms that had been operating in this area for generations. After nearly 20 years of very hard work, Brian and Christeen had grown the Practice from a one man, one phone business into a multi-person small and large animal Practice.
Leigh Hanlon in 1990 and Judy Law in 1992 joined Brian and, over the ensuing 25 years, together developed the business into a modern, continually evolving, multi-person Practice providing a broad range of services to the pets, horses and farm animals within this beautiful Valley. Services
Body condition score (BCS) is the number from 1 to 9 that describes the amount of fat and muscle a horse is carrying. A healthy horse should have a score of 4-6, depending on breed. PPID (Cushings Disease) and Equine Metabolic Syndrome are very common diseases that can significantly impact the health of your horse.
You will have everything at your fingertips to diagnose & work-up your cases, treat and convalesce in our fully equipped equine hospital. Thank you to the amazing Bastion, Dom and team at Samford Veterinary Hospital. Their quick thinking and professional and caring attitude saved our puppy after being bitten several times by an Eastern Brown.… Remy had an extremely high level of venom and it was Bastion’s quick thinking and professionalism that saved her, all while he kept us up to date every few minutes of our puppy’s progress. Dr Fran honestly has a heart of gold. She's has gotten my best mate out of trouble and in good health multiple occasions. A while back she operated on him which bought him another incredible 2 years of life.
After 13 years she was there to send him off to his happy place. Since this she follows up and sends a beautiful card that meant to world us.

We Have been taking out two Frenchie’s to SVVH for a couple years now and I cannot recommend Dr Lee and Dr Bastian enough, Rocky who is a bit more of a nervous dog when it comes to going to the vet and being around new people finds himself warming very fast to not only his doctors but also all the staff that love Seeing him. He’s now very excitable when we arrive to the clinic and cannot wait to see everyone. If your an animal lover of all sorts and can only expect to receive to utmost care for your loved ones than this is the only place we would recommend.

Don’t recommend. Disgusting with how I was treated by one of the vets who came out to my horse after hours. No empathy or expression of concern. Absolutely appalling. Two days later she gained her wings cause she wasn’t ok like I knew she wasn’t hence the call to the vets.. and the other vets who came out actually investigated and were quite concerned. Makes me sick.

I can't recommend enough today I had to make the hardest decision to put down my very sick young heart horse and Antonia was extremely good with helping me feel comfortable with letting him go. She was kind helpful and honest with everything and comforted me till they left. she was gentle and very knowledgeable I won't trust anyone els with my babies. I can't thank you and your nurse enough you where both amazing.

We have recently moved to Samford Valley Vet and have been really happy with the quality of care. We initially used the practice for an emergency on a Sunday, on a recommendation from a neighbour. Finding the practice hours to be more expansive than a previous vet we were using, it was far more convenient. The great news is all of the staff appear caring and very knowledgeable. We are really happy with our new vet.
