Often difficulties in living arise - such as relationship problems, depression, anxiety, unproductive behaviours, loss of meaning, low self esteem, work pressures, negative feelings - which lead to increasing patterns of distress. Taking time out for engaging in counselling is good self-care.

Focussed Psychological Strategies is the name given to the group of treatments that Psychologists offer under a GP-referral or Medicare Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). Focussed psychological strategies (FPS) are specific mental health care treatment strategies, derived from evidence based psychological therapies such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and interpersonal therapy (IPT).
Psychotherapy and Counselling are professional activities that utilise an interpersonal relationship to enable people to develop self-understanding and to make changes in their lives. Professional counsellors and psychotherapists work within a clearly contracted, principled relationship that enables individuals to obtain assistance in exploring and resolving issues of an interpersonal, intrapsychic, or personal nature.
Most relationships will get strained at some time, resulting in a failure to function optimally and produce self-reinforcing, maladaptive patterns. These patterns may be called "negative interaction cycles." There are many possible reasons for this. Couples therapy is a vital source in both crisis situations and in general maintenance supporting your relationship to run as smoothly and as satisfactorily as possible within your circumstances.
We are planning on running educational and therapeutic process groups (Yalom style) in 2015 so please watch this space, or contact us to go on a mailing list. Breakdowns in the therapeutic relationship are an unavoidable aspect of therapy. Depending on how well therapists engage in repair processes, alliance ruptures can provide a vital opportunity for growth and therapeutic change.
