Many people confuse stress with anxiety; stress is a normal response to a life even whereby they feel pressured, such as public speaking or trying to move through the supermarket aisle with a tantruming toddler. If you find you experience ongoing stress, even when the stressful situation has passed, you may be experiencing anxiety.
The feelings associated with depression can be unsettling for many people. The good news is that, these feelings are 'normal' when you are depressed and with some help from a psychologist and some input from you, these symptoms should eventually fade. You can also attend the emergency department at your closest hospital.
There are many reasons why a relationship may be struggling or lacking in intimacy. From our experience, a lack of effective communication skills is a very common reason behind unhappy relationships. We work from an evidence based perspective only using well established clinical interventions for couples.
A satisfying sexual relationship is an important component of a healthy adult relationship and often leads to feeling more emotionally closer to your partner; it is common for clients to say they no longer feel the passion they once did. I was very dissatisfied with the sessions with Sherry, so much so I had to write this review to get it off my palate. Many times it felt like we were not even in the same session. Major topics and concerns that were brought up we would talk about for mere minutes and then they became forgotten not to be brought up again. She was a very poor listener in this regard. She seemed to have a cookie cutter approach and in my opinion may be out of touch with male perspective. I believe she starts her sessions with presumptions before collecting information. When she got to talking you could not get a word

I decided to give this place a try despite the reviews and I am so beyond glad that I did. I have been going to New Leaf for a few months now and have only had positive experiences thus far. The psychologist I meet with is lovely and I have no plans of leaving. The reception ladies are wonderful too, always greeting me with a warm smile and helping me book more appointments. I feel bad for the people that gave this place poor reviews. They either did not put their own effort into their appointments or are too upset with themselves to see the good. I hope my review helps those that are looking for

Honestly so upset after visiting New Leaf. I had read a few unpleasant review but kept an open mind going in, however that was the greatest mistake I've ever made in my life. Unprofessional, unethical and disgustingly dirty, I would never return. Please everyone stay away from this organization. So upset.

I've made an appointment [1st one] for my 16 yr. old daughter to see Dr. Sherry Van Blyderveen. Received reminder call a day prior & confirmed my daughter's presence. Showed up on time with my daughter. Heard voices from one of the rooms. After 15 min waiting a woman peeked into the waiting room and quickly retreated to her room. Literally no word, no eye contact, nothing. All other rooms were locked and there was no secretary present. That's it. Super unprofessional for not calling us to cancel/postpone the appointment due to whatever might have happened. No call back after either. Absolutely

If I could give a half star I would. I had an appointment and then one day before the scheduled appointment, they called and said they had double booked my appointment slot. This was an inconvenience as I had already made arrangements to stay at a hotel because we had moved the day prior. They do not run their business well at all. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

Like all therapy/counselling, you get what you put into it. I haven't encountered any of the issues that some of the other people writing reviews have, so I can't speak to that. My experience is that the counsellors at New Leaf are professional, knowledgeable, and most importantly, effective.
If only the cost could be covered by OHIP... :(

My wife and I were left waiting half an hour for Dr. Sherry Van Blyderveen during our first appointment. We thought it was a one off and we wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. But it soon became apparent that she always runs late and never starts sessions on time. It's so frustrating, especially when you have made arrangements for child care or have to be somewhere else.
The Admin staff were horrendous. We wouldn't get confirmation calls or whenever our appointment was cancelled at the last minute.
This place is so unprofessional and unfriendly! You are better off going somewhere else

Utterly unprofessional.
While I cannot comment on the quality of the psychological care that New Leaf provides, I can tell you that their office staff leave so very much to be desired.
I have been trying for 5 weeks to get my teenage daughter in for an appointment.
The first appointment, I was given a 1 PM appointment time, and was called and reminded of a 1 PM appointment time. We were left sitting in the waiting room over an hour until finally inquiring why we hadn't been seen. It turns out the appointment time was 11 AM and the Dr had already left for the day.
Second appointment, we were

Exceptional service and professionalism. All the staff are great and Dr Sherry is incredible, the level of professionalism, knowledge and experience exceeded my expectations. The sessions are always beneficial and i have seen several other therapists in the past but have to say Dr. Sherry is the best. I also have a friend that sees another therapist at this location and is very very happy. Well done.
