We have developed a methodology that guides clients through increasing cashflow, building profit and growing revenue, all while implementing strategies that generate real value in their business. Founded in 2015 by tax expert James Howlin, Cake Accounting was established to provide growing businesses the advice that high net wealth individuals receive from their city-based advisore.
The history of cake dates back to ancient times, with the word cake having derived from 'kaka' an Old Norse word, although those cakes were more bread-like and sweetened with honey. Since then, due to advances in baking technology, as well as ingredient quality and availability (refined sugar, refined white flour and baking powder), cakes have become the sweet dessert we know and enjoy today.
We believe that business owners can have their cake and eat it too, so much that we built our business on it. We believe that by helping clients achieve their goals, they can set bigger goals to make a bigger impact, and make the world a better place. We deeply understand small business including the challenges they face, and believe that running a small business should be easier than the experience of most.
James Howlin is a Chartered Accountant, tax specialist, business advisor and company director with over seven years experience in Public Practice and is approaching two decades of working in and providing advice to small and medium businesses. A tax specialist, James joined a leading tax discussion group on his first day in the accounting profession and the knowledge and relationships from this group continue to add value to his clients today.
We believe that a business owner should be rewarded for the time and effort they have spent first learning their craft, then building their business. One of the biggest challenges we see is a business owner turning their skill in being a technician into a profitable business. By understanding what a profitable business looks like, we help clients bridge this gap.

Absolutely woeful.
I tried repeatedly to get James to address my business taxation matters with no joy whatsoever, and it is now going to cost me, dearly.
After cutting ties after the first failed attempt, to which he admitted he had let me down substantially, I reached back out to James to have another go at it, as he came well-recommended by a work colleague. He said he would "roll up his sleeves" and get into it. Shortly after I received emails asking for information that I had already given him, and again, all communication rapidly broke down with no action being taken to either follow-up
