No matter how many safety features your vehicle has, it's the tyres that determine how it drives and handles on snow and ice. At Snow Tyres, we're not only committed to finding the right tyre for your vehicle, but also to helping you understand why and how you can travel safely on our winter roads.

It's not just about what vehicle you drive. When choosing tyres you'll need to consider lifestyle, usage and location factors as well. Explore our range below, or contact us for help in finding the right tyre for you. Your vehicle is kept on the road by the four tyre contact areas that are not much bigger than the size of your palm.

Since 1985, the Camberwell store of Roof Carrier Systems has become well known as a supplier of quality roof carrier systems and snow chains. During the 2004 ski season, Roof Carrier Systems expanded the business to include Nokian Winter Tyres. Nokian invented and developed the world's first winter tyres and has manufactured winter tyres in Finland since 1934.
The tyres are the most active safety equipment of your vehicle, especially in snow and icy conditions. Countless drivers believe AWD/4WD cancels the need for winter tyres. AWD/4WD helps the vehicle accelerate on snow and ice, but when it comes to stopping or turning it is the tyres that make the difference, not the drivetrain.
The requirements for snow tyres and chains vary depending on your location in Australia, and they have undergone some recent changes. You can use the information below to guide you through these regulations. This means a snow tyre must be a dedicated winter tyre as per the tyre manufacturer's specifications.
Wheel chains are designed to allow a vehicle to climb a gradient that's beyond the grip level of the tyres. In countries other than Australia, wheel chains are normally fitted to snow tyres, not summer tyres. Australian regulations call for all vehicles in Victoria, and 2WDs in NSW, to carry wheel chains that can be correctly fitted to your tyres when required.
When you drive your vehicle in an alpine area in winter you need to determine how it performs in these low ambient temperatures and in snow or icy conditions. Here is a safe way to determine how much tyre grip is available for any vehicle when driving in challenging winter conditions.

When it is safe to do so, at a safe speed, and, making sure that no one is close behind you, apply the brakes firmly until the wheels lock up and the ABS is activated. This will give you a clear indication of the grip available at that particular point in time. Remember that the grip of your tyres varies depending on the conditions you're driving in.
