Refractive Error If you've ever said "I can't see without my glasses" then your eyes have a refractive error. Refractive errors can be corrected with glasses, contact lenses, or surgery. Blepharitis Blepharitis is an itchy, scratchy condition of the eyelids and eyelashes that can be a precursor to dry eyes.
Most cases of blurry vision are caused by a form of refractive error. Just like when you're photographing something and you can't bring it into focus, the eye also struggles until it's brought into focus by the ideal lens. Myopia (short-sightedness) is a condition in which light focuses just short of the retina (the back of the eye), and results in things being blurrier in the distance than it is close up.
Presbyopia is a consequence of the natural ageing process, when the focusing lens inside the eye doesn't adapt as quickly, easily or effectively as it used to. Is normally noticed once you are in your early 40's. It causes difficulty with close work; leading to blurry vision, eye strain, headaches, and the need to move detailed objects further away to make them easier to see.
Blepharitis is a common condition of the eyelids and eyelashes characterised by red, puffy lid margins and crusting of the eyelashes. It is one of the main causes of dry eye syndrome and can range from being a slight annoyance to something quite debilitating. It is also a common precursor to recurrent styes.
