From 1929 till the end of World War II, Paul Driessen (Leo's father) founded and ran a small Nationale-Nederlanden insurance subsidiary in Batavia. When the war was over he moved back to Holland and continued working in insurance for Nationale-Nederlanden. Before long, Paul was approached to set up the first subsidiary in Australia.
