Commonwealth Golf Club
Commonwealth's origins can be traced to a small group of golfing enthusiasts who, for some time prior to 1914, had laid down six holes in what was known as Flatman's Paddock extending from Murrumbeena Road to Koornang Road Carnegie, as Murrumbeena Golf Club. It was in 1914 just before the outbreak of war that negotiations were commenced to lease land east of Darling Railway Station extending across towards Ashburton.

Eighteen holes were laid down by the professional, Sam Bennett by 1915, and the Waverley Golf Club was established. The fourth and sixth holes were played across a deep cutting of the old Outer Circle railway line between the present Alamein and Ashburton stations. With the revival of golfing activities in 1919 the Club began to expand, and, with the expiration of the lease in sight, efforts to secure a suitable freehold property were commenced.

Commonwealth golf club, is one of the many wonderful and great golf courses on the Melbourne sandbelt.
This is an exclusive member's only golf course, there are a few ways to be able to get a game there, one you will need to know a member or there is a golf event arranged by a 3rd party at the venue.
I was invited by my friend who is been a long member, a member guest competition day. It was overwhelming driving in, everything was just so well maintained and just was very pleasing to the eye. The course was just awesome. As can be seen by the pictures. The staff at the pro shop were friendly

Nice course. 100 years old. Established trees and typical Sandbelt design. Greens are little tricky because if u get from the wrong side, it will always move u away from the hole. I have a bit of challenge about no snacks and drinks in between. Also, no buggies !!!! I took away one star because of that.

Commonwealth Golf Club: This very attractive layout, one of several on Melbourne's golf course-laden "sandbelt", has almost garden-like qualities, such is the variety of trees and bushes, large and small. Most of the trouble and hazards are clear enough to see from the tee. Commonwealth is not just a delightful walk in the park, as a golf course it has everything one needs.

This course is absolutely brilliant. I played as a guest a few weeks ago and was extremely impressed. I have played all sandbelt courses and this stacks up against the best. Strategically fantastic - classic risk/ reward. Clubhouse is magnificent!

Fantastic course which was in immaculate condition even with freezing weather overnight. The staff were all in great spirits, knowledgeable and kind. The practice facilities were also a joy to use and very impressive. But the main draw was the course itself. Very enjoyable and a thinkers Course where you have to plan each hole from the start. No… blasting drivers all over the place here and scoring well. Loved how good you had to be with your approach shots, or at least miss in the right place. Very quick and a great surface on the greens also made it even more enjoyable. A great day out
