Hung Kuen ( also called Hung Ga ) Kung Fu is one of the most popular martial art styles of Southern China. It is known for its devastating close-range hand techniques, delivered through the power of a strong-rooted stance.

Utilizing the Charisms/ techniques of the 5 animals ( Tiger, Crane, Leopard, Snake and Dragon) this system combines both hard and soft power to offer a complete system for health and self-defense, as well as internal power and mental focus.Stance training is an important part of this style as it is the platform from which hand and arm techniques are launched.
Kung Fu in its early origins evolved as an important instrument through which an individual could discover one's self through physical, emotional, mental and spritual training. The Hung Kuen tradition recognises the importance of this and the inclusion of both sexes in its history. One of the masters of the Hung Kuen family lineage is a magnificent lady called Mok Gwei Lan.
The concept of Yin and Yang (Ying and Yang is a common mistaken usage of the term) lies at the heart of Chinese philosphy and martial arts.

It is the recognition of the complementary opposites, such as male / female : black / white : action/reaction amd countless other relationships that exists in the universe and represents the constant tension and balance that not only holds the planets and galaxies together but also holds a healthy and well balanced human being together.
The body is healthier through increased activity. The mind is more peaceful because you can be more self-confident of your abilities and limits. Enlightenment is achieved through quiet contemplation of your own self. Chinese martial arts are an unique form of activity in that it combines all three elements.
