Having recently graduated from UWA with his Doctor of podiatric medicine in Western Australia, David brings a fresh perspective to looking after our patients' foot and lower limb wellbeing. During his studies, David accrued experience by working in both hospitals and private clinics. This training was completed in a multidisciplinary team setting.

The technical name for a bunion is "Hallux Abductovalgus". It is sometimes also referred to as just "Hallux Valgus". This "bump" develops due to the increased pressure on footwear and is commonly made up of bone. Over time a bunion can progressively get worse without treatment. Bunions can be a cause of discomfort and can also become quite painful.
The main role of the hallux is to help the body push off and forward when you are walking. It is a common area of the foot to develop pain and discomfort. The Podiatrists at Rivervale Podiatry are trained and experienced in the assessment and treatment of hallux concerns.
Pain in the big joint at the base of the big toe can be caused by poor-alignment of the joint due to a bunion, the development of bony spurs that prevent the joint from working properly, irritation from poor-fitting footwear and inflammation of the structures surrounding the joint, e.g.Pain in the smaller joint of the big toe is usually as a result of increased pressure on the joint and abnormal movement of the joint.

When we have stretching of the tight band that holds together the arch of the foot (the plantar fascia), then it becomes tight. This band cannot stretch like a muscle does, so it just gets pulled tight and becomes sore. It will pull so much that it ends up stretching the outer lining of the bone, resulting in the formation of a spur.

So I've just had an ingrown toe nail thing sorted by Podiatrist Klaudia Tot. Klaudia was kind, and explained what she was going to do and what to do about after care. She has done a wonderful job. Walking without pain is such a joy.
The receptionist was also pleasant and helpful with my inquiries.

Klaudia is an awesome podiatrist. Super caring, super gentle and extremely professional. She takes the time to listen and understand. And when she performs the treatment, she also takes the time to explain the steps. Would definitely recommend her to any of my friends ! Very very happy with her service .

Friendly, warm, and professional! I had excellent treatment by Klaudia; her lovely bedside manner put me immediately at ease as she asked me questions and examined my dodgy knee. I left feeling really looked after with the knee much improved after some dry needling and taping.
Wendy at reception was equally amazing and it was so nice to be dealt with in such a warm and engaging manner. I would recommend this team to anyone!

From the time I walked in and was greeted warmly by the receptionist (sorry didn’t catch her name), to the feeling and general good vibes - I felt in good caring hands (or feet?) - the podiatrist Klaudia was very professional in listening to my long story of health conditions - we came up with a plan and to be reviewed in 3 months time. With my conditions being as they are I don’t expect miracles from anyone any more - however she made an experience which I don’t expect to bring me much joy, into one. Thank you for the wonderful service.

David from Rivervale Podiatry has been a great help. He quickly diagnosed my problem, gave effective immediate solutions and has provided great follow up consultation.
