Affectionately known to locals as 'The Fed', Alstonville's iconic Federal Hotel has welcomed locals and tourists alike for more than 100 years. More than a favourite watering-hole, The Fed is a local institution; a place where the community meets and friendships grow. Whilst the Hotel has undergone many refurbishments over the years, the Hotel's original federation character is balanced alongside the essential features of a modern venue.
Inside the original historic building, you will find a friendly, social atmosphere, all-weather dining area and a shady beer garden for families to relax and enjoy live entertainment on Friday nights (and most Sunday afternoons in summer!). Our bistro is widely regarded as serving the best contemporary pub food in the region else.

Great place to go if you like sitting out side, it is elevated above the road, so you can sit and watch the passers-by. There is lots of shelter from the weather. You can choose to sit inside if you like. Good place to take the family for lunch or dinner. They have just done a revamp in the front bar & kitchen. We both had battered whiting with chips & salad $12. Each, price was good, food was just ok. Chips were nothing special & the salad had motley lettuce leaves (not good). The fish was not too bad. They have alcoholic ginger beer on tap @ $10.50 a schooner. Ive had better tasting ginger beer

Food wasn't too bad. The service was!.
We were greeted with a lecture about making a booking for next time. Mind you the place was empty. We were told this time last week, we would have not gotten a table. But we came this week and it was empty. Anyways ... We ordered, food came out and it was nice. The rest of the staff were nice.
Felt a little unwelcomed...

Pretty happy with everything except for the beer range and more importantly the crispy skin pork belly. It should not be advertised as crispy skin at all. That is something that should be check before going out. Not only was it not crispy it was actually soft, so the crispy skin never got eaten. Everything else was great.

This pub wasn't all that bad, and in fact, still retains its old school charm. Mind you, it is sort of in the middle of the country, but then again this part of the country is hardly all that remote, especially since I managed to walk from the pub in the previous town. Still, as a pub, it was rather nice, even though it didn't have a great beer selection. Then again it does happen to be a country pub, so that is to be expected.
