Blairgowrie Counselling is a counselling and psychotherapy service that aims to help individuals through difficult times. We all experience challenges at times in our lives such as loss, bereavement, trauma, relationship problems, family or work tensions which can cause us to feel sad, anxious and confused.
Sometimes it's hard to find a way forward and others are too close to the situation or you feel they don't understand. If you can identify with this then maybe talking to a professional counsellor and psychotherapist like myself could be beneficial.

Services
My approach to counselling and psychotherapy is influenced by the existential/humanistic school which focuses on self-development and personal growth and fulfillment. I also use other therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and Psychodynamic therapy in order to tailor the treatment to suit the needs of the client whilst still considering Evidence Based Practice.
Although the terms counselling and psychotherapy are often used interchangeably there are differences. Counselling focuses on helping people to cope with specific life challenges. Psychotherapy focuses on helping people gain understanding of their long-term patterns of behaving and relating to others, which can disrupt relationships, work and health, in order to promote change.
During the first session the counsellor aims to gain a thorough understanding of the issue(s) that have brought you to counselling. You will most likely be asked several questions about your personal background and general health as part of a general intake assessment. This may include the administering of some diagnostic questionnaires.
A session runs for 55 minutes, which is often referred to as the "therapeutic hour" and costs $80 per session. A cheaper fee is available for students and people with concession cards. This needs to be assessed and agreed to prior to commencing counselling. Clients with Medibank Private insurance with extras are eligible for a rebate under "Counselling".
