This comprehensive inspection service is strongly advised when purchasing a new or used vessel. The purpose of this marine survey is to provide the buyer with the necessary tools to make informed and balanced decisions regarding the vessel and to evaluate its general condition and overall operation prior to purchase.
This Condition and Valuation (C&V) Report is generally required by an insurance underwriter to determine whether or not a vessel is an acceptable risk. They are interested in the structural integrity and safety of the vessel for its intended use. Therefore the primary focus of the C&V report is on items that could lead to the loss of the vessel due to sinking, fire or dismasting and the possible endangerment of its crew and passengers.
A damage inspection report is a job specific survey that assesses the extent of damage to a vessel, reports on the probable cause of that damage and makes recommendations as to necessary repairs. These are often required for insurance purposes and as such are generally commissioned by insurance companies, however an independent third party inspection may be of use to an owner in the case of disputes.
