Services
Harrison Speech Pathology offers a wide range of speech and language therapy services for our clients. We understand not every treatment works for every client, which is why we provide a range of service provisions and utilise many therapy techniques to ensure the best possible result. Our individualised service is one of the best in Newcastle and the Hunter, with a particular focus on integrating technology in the therapy experience.
Our Newcastle specialist speech therapists are trained in providing Hanen family-focused programs. Hanen treatment is an evidence-based therapy approach which can be provided in a group format or individually with a client and their caregivers. At Harrison Speech Pathology in Newcastle our preference is to provide individual Hanen intervention tailored to each client and their specific areas of impairment requiring intervention.
This therapy approach uses touch cues to a client's face (jaw, tongue, lips) to manually support them articulating a targeted word, phrase or sentence. The technique aides motor control and the development of proper oral muscular movements. A speech pathologist assists a speech sound impairment by supporting and stimulating the client's muscles to produce different sounds correctly through touch.
Our Newcastle Speech therapists will help you and your child with a range of dyslexia therapy options. Dyslexia is not a disease, rather a condition which means the individual struggles with reading, spelling and writing. There are different types of dyslexia which need individual treatment to assist a child to maximise their potential in terms of learning abilities and specifically reading and spelling competency.
Harrison Speech Pathology's autism therapy program benefits from our first-hand experience. The team at Harrison Speech Pathology have a unique understanding of Autism and Autism treatments. Our director Christine Harrison is the mother of a child living with Autism and an intellectual disability. This has had a significant impact on our treatments and understanding of the difficulties associated with Autism.

Report
I was initially disappointed with the results of a screening on my child as her bilingual background wasn't taken into account in the articulation screening. The speech pathologist contacted me quickly when I left a message, passed on the additional information I provided to her preschool and has offered to request information around children's linguistic backgrounds in consent forms in the future. Christine, the owner, also followed up personally, and my concerns have been addressed.
