The phone number 4284 5416 has been the same up to the present day. The practice was opened by Dr Kenneth Doust, who previously had been the Medical Superintendent of Port Kembla Hospital. We began with having approximately 6 patients on the first day, and then about 2 or 3 patients per day after that.
Dr Doust also conducted practice from his residence in Foleys Road, Gwynneville for people living in that area. For several months the practice grew, servicing both areas and in particular the arrival of many immigrants from England and Italy. At that time, the Fairy Meadow Hostel was operational. In the 1970s - 1980s there was the arrival of Turkish migrants.

I ran out of my heartburn tablets and after a very painful Saturday night decided to 'walk-in' to Better Care Medical Centre at Fairy Meadow.
Upon arrival at 9:15am, there was clearly a problem with the standard 'Best Practice' medical software that most GP's use. There was only one receptionist on duty, Abbey, who was trying to reset the internet connection, take instructions from the IT help desk, answer the phone and greet patients all at the same time.
I was given a number (excellent backup system) and sat in the waiting room whilst the GP saw other patients. What happened next was truly

Amazing staff!! First-class customer experience I have received in Wollongong in many years. Businesses in the region should take example from this place.
The girls go out of their way with: booking in last minute appointment requests, courtesy calls, general assistance, checking on patients while they wait etc. You really feel cared for. Their phone manner is suburb and on visiting they always have a smile on their face.
Selection of doctors are great - knowledgeable, thinking outside the box and there are at least 4-5 doctors available at one time so that means less waiting times.
