To enable engaged, meaningful lives, for everyone by encouraging occupational therapy excellence. We are a global network of 105 member organisations, representing 580,000 occupational therapists. We set the standard for occupational therapy practice internationally and promote excellence through research and education.

Our annual occupational therapy day raises awareness for the profession and provides a platform to celebrate and exchange the diversity of our members. As a worldwide body we represent the profession in its role of improving world health and wellbeing. A global community of occupational therapists seeking to improve their practice, its recognition on an international level and its understanding in the wider world health context.

WFOT advocates for the human right to participate in chosen meaningful occupations and represents the profession in its role of improving world health and wellbeing. A WFOT Individual Membership subscription provides personal benefits that also contribute to the advancement of the profession globally.
A global community of occupational therapists seeking to improve their practice, its recognition on an international level and its understanding in the wider world health context. We are their platform for debate and knowledge and their support for research and credentials.

Organisation Membership - Organisation Membership is open in each sovereign or city state or territory and area to one professional organisation of qualified occupational therapists which shall be admitted either as a voting Full Membership to the Council if at least one education programme meets the Minimum Standards of the WFOT or as a non-voting Associate Membership to the Council if those Standards regarding the education programme are not met or no programme exists.
WFOT uses a programme management structure to meet the aims and objectives for the organisation. The work is carried out by four Programme Coordinators in collaboration with project team leaders and project team members. The Programme Coordinators oversee ongoing functions and time limited project teams which are guided by specific costed project plans.
We are enabling excellence in occupational therapy and promoting its global growth and development. We are engaging occupational therapists in broad and deep discovery of their profession. The education programme area is responsible for ensuring the quality of education programmes globally through the development of standards that reflect the dynamic qualities of occupational therapy education worldwide.
We are discovering new ways for occupational therapy to evolve through broad and deep collaboration across the profession. As the international representative of occupational therapy, WFOT is committed to evidence-informed practice.

The Research Programme, formally instituted in 2014, seeks to support and promote the development of research evidence to support responsive, ethical, culturally sensitive and contextually relevant occupational therapy practice.
