Enjoy waterfront views of the stunning Tamar River from one of the best seats in Launceston. In late 2019, Tasmanian owned Norton Hospitality Group had the opportunity to purchase the iconic restaurant, Hallams. The NH Group wanted to honour the historic reputation, which has been built up over 26 years by the Hallam Family, by keeping the historic name connected to the business.
After an extensive renovation in 2020, we opened our doors with a new team and a new Hallams. Headed by our executive chef, Jake Kowalewski, Hallams is focused on celebrating the finest and freshest seasonal Tasmanian produce. Our aim is to ensure you have an exceptional dining experience with us at Hallams, the finest seafood restaurant in Launceston.

We chose Hallam's Waterfront to celebrate my wife's birthday. We began with a platter of delicious, fresh seafood including oysters and sashimi. This was followed by hot canapés such as scallops, prawn tacos and tasty vegetarian options.
The venue is in a beautiful location looking over the waterfront, perfect at sunset. The staff were amazing: all very friendly and attentive.
Thank you for hosting us and we can't wait to come back.

We escaped for a weekend away from Victoria, determined to enjoy some local seafood during our stay in Launceston.
Set against a beautiful back drop of the setting sun over the water on a gorgeous evening, Hallam’s certainly looked the part as a positive start.
The atmosphere warm and welcoming and the decor perfect for a seafood restaurant. Beautifully presented and well thought out, right down to the crayfish hooks in the bathroom and the tiled walls with subtle fish scale pattern. Very clever!
The highlights most importantly, were the friendly and courteous staff, as well as the amazing

New owners. Expensive modifications. New chef x Sydney with excellent credentials, my wife’s 80th birthday. Problem making a choice of where to dine out. Having reviewed top class restaurants around the world for a number of years, we recently moved to Launceston (retired) finally decided to have dinner at Hallam,s Waterfront Restaurant. First, what an excellent choice we made. The service was very professional, faultless. The menu was well thought through, offering a good range of appetising dishes. The preparation of our meals was as good as any where we have dined. On leaving with a genuine

Had seafood chowder and eye fillet
The trevalla fish and scallop were OK fresh, however I couldn't taste any seafood flavour in the soup and too creamy.
I ordered medium rare but it too red, and it's fresh. the color of the dish was dull in general. The kale was braised and gave dark color as well. The overall taste of the dish was too plain.
The serve there was great

Recently visited (sat lunch) and even though it was very quiet, the seafood was extremely fresh. Portion sizes are relatively small and prices are definitely on the high side even compared to Melbourne. Taste was above average but not extremely interesting. I guess the main thing was that it was fresh. Perhaps consider slightly larger serving sizes...

Fantastic family dinner! Amazing flavours. We were surprised at how many mixed reviews this place had. As the wait staff were exceptional went above and beyond, the food was fresh, hot and local. The oysters were decadent and the whole snapper was brilliant but the star of the night was dessert a lemongrass pannacotta with candied chilli and star anise quince and sesame twill it was absolutely incredible shame this place will be closing down soon ~ get in before it’s too late
