Services
Star Bar Caf & Hotel is one of Launceston's most iconic hotels. A long history runs through the Star Bar building, originally constructed from convict brick in the 1800s, the heritage-listed facade has welcomed many a weary traveller. The Star Bar, after extensive renovations, was relaunched in 1991, with Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen opening the night by cooking the very first pizza in the imported Italian wood-fired pizza oven.
The Star Bar has a large selection of beverages to enjoy, with a focus on Tasmania's fantastic wines, beers, Gins and Whisky. We have a extensive wine list that covers most of the major regions around Australia and the World. Our Cocktail list full of the old favourites plus some of our more modern creations and is ever evolving.
We are fortunate to have some amazing produce at our fingertips here in Tasmania and we like to make the most of this wherever possible. We let our chefs use there creativity serving modern Australian cuisine with as much Tasmanian produce as possible whether it be our Kyeema Seafoods pink ling for the fish and chips of our selection of Cape Grim Beef for our Steaks.
We have 12 ensuite rooms at the Star Bar, these vary from single rooms sleeping one person up to our larger co-joined rooms of that can sleep a family of four. Our rooms are neat, tidy and suited to people who might be travelling for work or travellers want a nice central location to explore Launceston and it surrounds, while knowing they have a great restaurant and bar directly below.
Our rooftop bar is fantastic for your private functions or parties, call us to discuss the options available. We cater anything from birthday parties and engagements through to conferences. With your own private bar and ability to have your own live entertainment, the options are endless. When The rooftop bar is not hired out its another great space we like to utilise on a Saturday night in the summer months for our own live music.

2 stars.. just for the room being clean.. no service available.. no wifi.. no one at reception..no remote for the TV.. no one picking up the phone.. no "hot water".. i understand the price point is low.. but its ridiculous when you call yourself a hotel and do not have any basic services available..

Ordered the vegetarian burger off the menu. Pumpkin and chickpea with beetroot relish. Was given a 30c cooked (frozen bought) bubble n squeak veggie patty and a few pieces of lettuce (at $24). Insult to vegetarians. 3 star as the replacement pizza was good and staff replaced the burger without a fuss.

Stayed in a room here. Very old, small and dirty, not remotely worth the cost. Then on Saturday night they have a dance party upstairs next to the rooms. No possibility of sleeping at all.
Edit: had to add this bit. After they finally shut down the dance party just after 12am, their wake up call is when they wash down the corridor outside the room with a fire hose. Presumably that is the signal to leave.
Edit: to their credit they refunded me the noisy night without question.

Sarah at the Star Bar was brilliant with assisting me with arranging a surprise birthday party for my husband! She knew her stuff and was spot on with recommendations on how much to order!!
We had a private space on the rooftop bar, which was perfect for the event.
The pizzas were an absolute hit and really great quality!!!! We will go back again just to get more of these pizzas.

Was planning to have Thai at the place next door, but it was closed...Star Hotel was warm (wood fire), shared a comfy & cosy booth with hubby. Generous serves for dinner. Could have had the Mushroom Bruschetta as my main instead of side dish... Atlantic Salmon cooked perfectly. Hubby very happy with Gluten Free options. Big thumbs up.
