We have Medicare online claiming and can process your Medicare refund after payment is made. Fees vary according to the Medicare item number, examination type and if additional scans are performed. In most cases Medicare covers $58.55 (conditions apply). If additional imaging or tests (such as visual field tests) are required, they will be discussed with you and will be extra on top of the general eye examination fee.
Eye care is essential for keeping your eyes healthy and in good vision. Our optometrists perform an eye examination and can determine the presence of vision-related problems. They can also prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses. Optometrists in our practice are trained to treat eye diseases and prescribe eye drops for various conditions.
Myopia, or short-sightedness, is where the eyeball is too long, resulting in blurry vision in the distance. Usually, once you have myopia, especially at a young age, it tends to worsen over time. With each degree of increased myopia, your risks of eye diseases such as myopic maculopathy and retinal detachment increases few folds compared to those without myopia.
Low vision means that even with regular glasses, contact lenses, medicine or surgery, people find everyday tasks difficult to achieve. Reading the mail, shopping, cooking, seeing the TV, and writing can seem challenging. Living with a visual impairment can be difficult. Most people develop low vision because of eye diseases and health conditions like macular degenerations, cataract, glaucoma and diabetes.

A prolonged farce. I had great service for many years from Andrew Watkins but the glasses I got a couple of years ago became scratched very quickly and the coatings deteriorated in a way I had never seen before. I thought it was just bad luck so I went in for a new pair. This time I decided to get two pairs of glasses: one pair of clear lenses for… around the house and a pair of transitions lenses for outdoors. Over six weeks later it has been a comedy of errors. I have had the wrong lenses put in frames (despite what I thought was a clear explanation less than an hour earlier), the wrong

Went to inquire about a certain sunnies frame for bike riding. The staff that looked after me (wasn't able to catch her name) was very helpful and exhausted all possible avenues to help me with my queries. Although I didn't end up getting the frame I'm after, I certainly recommend this place. Very good experience I had shopping for frames.

For many years have visited Andrew for optometrical services. Always impressed. Every member of staff is there to look after you. Recently needed 'specs' for a particular view of the world - the product is the 'bees-knees' - and even the ancillaries are excellent - the texture of the (free) lens cleaner cloth is 'quality street'. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

A good optometrist for those who are willing to pay more. The cost of an eye test is $95, of which Medicare will reimburse around $35, and the rest will be out of your own pocket. Following my consultation, I requested the optometrist to fill in a form for my work, and was told it will cost me $11 more. Hmmm, this soured a very positive experience.

If you're in Canberra and you need your eyes tested/new glasses/contacts, head to Andrew Watkins in the Canberra Centre. Besides being the friendliest, most accommodating and most professional optometrists I've dealt with in my 22 years of wearing glasses, they also just replaced my lenses for free after I melted the anti-scratch coating AND express posted them back to Melbourne in just 24 hours, refusing to let me pay so much as postage. Excellent service in every respect.
