Much of what makes us unhappy is unconscious and not easily accessed by easy explanations. Bayside counsellors work with clients to explore aspects of their life and their feelings, and learn new ways of overcoming personal difficulties. Managing vulnerabilities, emotions and behaviours can make problems easier to understand.

Therapy is a shared process in which you discuss your concerns, problems and current challenges. Bayside counsellors provide individual or couple sessions in person, by Skype/Zoom or telephone. Parking is available on Glenhuntly Road and behind the building in Pyne Street. Public transport: Trams 64, Stop 48.
Services
Gabby works with adults on building emotional well being and resilience. She is experienced in all areas of counselling including relationships, couples, grief and loss, trauma, addiction anxiety and depression. Gabby is an Employment Assistance Program provider to forensic psychology services in Victoria and is a Workcover provider.
Can I get a rebate? Counselling and psychotherapy are confidential services. You are entitled to a 20% rebate for counselling sessions when you submit your tax return if your annual out of pocket medical expenses (as an individual or family) are greater than $1500. Bayside Counselling fees are not eligible for Medicare rebates as Bayside is not a provider of Focused Psychological Strategies.
The counselling environment provides a safe and confidential space where an understanding of how to successfully meet the challenges in life is explored. Counselling is a relationship which is non-judgemental, confidential and respectful, and can enable you to examine the issues without concern of it impacting on family and friends.
You have a decent counsellor if you feel you can trust them to understand where you are coming from. This may take a couple of sessions. Some qualities to look for in a good counsellor is that of empathy, good listening ability, a non-judgmental approach with the ability to help you feel safe and relaxed enough to able you to tell your story.
Have an awareness of cultural differences and the intergenerational tension this may cause. Both Maralyn and Gabby have a practical knowledge of the wide range of experiences that offers an opportunity for personal and professional growth. Because they have worked and continue to work in the community with marginalised groups they are non judgemental and approach people as unique individuals.

Extremely disappointed in Bayside counselling. I called and emailed my concerns and no response. Since reported the psychologist to AHPRA and they agreed professional performance was below the standard reasonably expected.

This review is about a psychologist at Bayside and not the organisation. I was a patient of Dean Grimshaw for about 10 months for my depression, stress and anxiety relating to a workers comp claim. A few weeks before my court case Dean was subpoenaed to produce my medical records. He refused to produce the records unless he was paid up front ($750). An order was made at the Melbourne Magistrates Court that Dean produce the records within a week. He informed me that he would not do so unless he received payment. I spoke to my solicitor about this and I was informed that if the records are not produced
