A VLCD or Very Low Calorie Diet is a low calorie, high protein, total food replacement that is used for the dietary management of obesity. This type of diet is formulated to be a nutritionally complete liquid or solid meal that contains 800 calories or less per day, they contain the required levels of micronutrients and macronutrients to ensure that all daily nutritional requirements are met.
Similar to a VLCD, an LCD uses the same principle of creating a calorie deficit to enable your body to burn fat to lose weight. The main difference is that an LCD, requires you to restrict your calorie intake but with more allowance and flexibility compared to a VLCD. An LCD diet allows you to consume between 1000-1800 calories per day with regular meals and snacks incorporated.
