Shikisai Japanese Cooking Classes
Website
At Shikisai we're dedicated to helping you achieve your goal of learning how to make healthy, authentic yet surprisingly simple Japanese dishes. No matter your skill level, Shikisai will guide you in creating delicious Japanese dishes from scratch. You will also gain the fundamental tools to enable you to master more advanced dishes in the future.

All our classes are run under the guidance of a passionate and professional Japanese chef with many years of training and vast experience in teaching the skills you desire to achieve. As we are a commercial kitchen, we do not offer the fanciness often associated with Japanese cooking as a part of our class.
Services
Japanese food is often designed to represent the colours of a season, or even all four seasons. Shikisai also evokes the source and provenance of the quality ingredients we should always aim to use in our cooking, with seasonal foods giving a dish its unique taste and meaning. Shikisai was founded to share our knowledge and give the ability to cook Japanese food to those that long to create high quality, healthy family meals.
Shikisai Japanese Cooking classes provide enjoyable, expert cooking tuition in an intimate small-group environment. Our classes are not so much a social event as a practical learning experience, where you will learn the skills and knowledge required to create delicious and healthy Japanese cuisine time and time again.
If you're new to Japanese cooking, or even have some experience, our Mirin and Soy Sauce cooking class is the one we recommend for anyone wanting to learn how to make their own delicious Japanese food at home. This class teaches you how, through the use only a handful of readily available ingredients, you can create a wide variety of Japanese dishes, such as teriyaki chicken or katsudon.
Sushi: what most people first think of when it comes to Japanese food, is loved by people world-wide for its harmonious combination of carefully prepared rice and fillings. In our sushi classes, you will learn every step, so you can prepare restaurant quality sushi in your own home.

From washing the rice, cooking it and mixing with vinegar, to filling preparation and finally rolling the sushi, we will carefully guide you, while also providing small but important tips to maximise your new found knowledge.Using ingredients such as teriyaki chicken, sweetened egg omelette, prawns, tuna, avocado, cucumber and Japanese pickled radish, you will learn how to prepare them to make the perfect sushi rolls.
Two friendly staff from Shikisai, will come to your place, where we will assist the children in making either sushi rolls or bento boxes. The 'Birthday child' will be the designated 'chef' for the occasion, and will learn to prepare teriyaki chicken in front of the other children. Each child will make their own sushi (20 pieces) or bento box.

As a family we booked a private session to learn the basics of Japanese cooking and flavours. It was amazing. We all learnt so much which we have already put into practice. I would highly recommend this to others.

Kyoko is a great authentic Japanese cooking teacher. We thoroughly enjoyed our private class with her. Make sure you bring along a big empty container for all the food you will make. Highly recommend.

Absolutely amazing experience!!! Learnt how to make sushi, and Kyoko was an excellent teacher. Learnt not only about sushi, but Kyoko informed us of the traditions and history behind the food. You can't ask for a better teacher, kind, patient and very informative. Explains the why's behind the processes, not just the steps themselves. Sensational experience and sensational food, definitely worth a visit. Will be back for more classes!!!
