Jo Schaeffer Psychotherapy & Counselling
Psychotherapy is an effective treatment for mental health issues like anxiety, depression, stress, body-image, self-esteem, sexuality, relationship difficulties and healing trauma. It is a healing opportunity to deepen your connection with yourself and others and to increase spontaneity, autonomy and intimacy.

We work with repetitive patterns and life scripts which you might be unconsciously living out. Psychotherapy addresses both the day-to-day management of symptoms as well as the underlying causes of these conditions to facilitate lasting change. Psychotherapy works as a complementary treatment with medication, they work in different ways.
Services
Group therapy is an alternative to individual therapy. The group meets every week for 90 minutes and consists of 6 to 8 members including the therapist. The group setting offers participants a unique opportunity to come together face-to-face to examine the dynamics we create in relationship with others and reflect on the impact we have on each other.
Bringing up children can be very challenging and personally confronting, learning to deal not only with your child's behaviour but also your own responses to your child. Based on Transactional Analysis, all Connected Parenting programs are an experiential journey specifically tailored to your parenting needs.
The theoretical foundation underpinning my clinical practice is Relational Transactional Analysis (TA) which incorporates theories of the development of self, attachment and character structures. The psychodynamic approach considers a broad spectrum of clients and symptoms.

Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented approach tracking bodily sensations and the autonomic nervous system to release build up of charge in the nervous system and build resources and capacity. This is especially helpful for resolving trauma, psychosomatic symptoms and physiological syndromes. I began my private practice in psychotherapy in the late 1990s.
