The building is the historic courthouse, built in the 1890's by convict settlers. It has now been converted into completely self-contained, fabulously comfortable accommodation. The old holding cells (jail cells) have been converted into bathrooms (with underfloor heating - something we are sure the old visitors to the cells would have appreciated), and the old exercise yard, kept in its original these housing a foosball table, and dart board (not to mention a wood burner for those chilly nights).
Services
The Courthouse has 4 very comfortable double rooms (3 x queen, 2 x single beds), luxurious linen and towels are included. For $15 a head, we can arrange for lunch to be delivered to the Courthouse, awaiting your return from adventuring (min 8 guests). Yoga is taught locally in the St Albans School of the Arts hall (at the bottom of our driveway).

€¢ A lovely old sandstone property located on the escarpment above the McDonald River. A wonderful location to visit, explore and enjoy. However, the property has been very badly neglected and needs lots of love and care to bring it back to it's original state. The grounds have been poorly maintained and are actually unsafe. Air B and B should be made aware of this. There is no fencing to protect guests from tumbling down the escarpment - it's quite dangerous! The gardens and paths are overgrown with weeds - there has been little effort in maintaining the lawns - just mowing and no attempt to

We stayed at the homestead with friends over the new years. What an amazing place to get away from it all! The accommodation was amazing and the extra space and ensuites to all rooms was an added bonus. The swimming pool was quite large and the kids certainly enjoyed it. The hosts are amazing too. I forgot some valuables while checking out and Kate sent them via express post!! Will definitely book again.

St Albans is a beautiful little village - the old pub is amazing and the views and walks are stunning. St Albans Homestead has the potential to be a great holiday accommodation - however we were really disappointed with our experience overall. Whilst the bedrooms and views are lovely, the kitchen had clearly not been deep cleaned for a very long time. The cupboards were full of personal junk of the owner and even old /off condiments. There was nowhere to put groceries and lacked lots of basics like chopping boards/serving bowls/baking trays. The bbq was filthy. Given it’s in the middle of nowhere

What a fabulous weekend, not far from Sydney to drive and such a special place. The courthouse fits a couple of families - great facilities to cook up a BBQ. The pool is amazing and refreshing - couldn't get the kids out of it! The village and surrounding area is great for bush walks, tennis and fun on the river beach. There's even a rope swing not far out of the village. Magical getaway to suit all the family (including our dog!) - we can't wait for our next visit. Thank Rob & Kate and family

We stayed in the Courthouse with our family and young grandchildren - it's our second stay in 6mths. For us the house, grounds, pool and location are perfect. The goats, especially Dave are hilarious. If I… could have snuck him home with us I would. He's quite a character. Some of our family are ultra runners who enjoyed exploring the trails and roads. Beds are comfy and amenities great. We had an absolute ball and are looking forward to returning for a third time soon.

Amazing historic stay in a stunning location with great views over the River. Great hosts in Rob and Kate and the Courthouse has been lovingly restored with the old cells now bathrooms. The Settlers Arms is a must visit for dinner and drinks and only a 5 minute walk. Thanks for a great stay. We will be back soon!

An amazing sanctuary away from the mayhem of the big city. Hard to believe it’s so close to the city. Loved our weekend away exploring St Albans and the surrounding countryside, walking tracks, swimming areas ... and the pub. Rob and Kate - and Dave the goat - were amazing hosts. Back again one day soon hopefully.

Kitty C Brummell, the Old courthouse via Webb's Creek Ferry Road. I've no idea of the date as I've lost track of time. The maid left a tin of butter scotch Highland biscuits and some smoked salmon and some Belugah caviar and St Agur blue vein cheese (my new favourite) and some kallamatta olives (they had seeds.... I know!) and some crisp bread - but I'm simply famished. I've been here some time and have been slaving away at my new book for the kiddies which I'm calling "When the crow has enough to eat no-one gets hurt" which I hope to get off to my publishers this week when it will become a new

This location is fabulous! Great party house, view, pool, goats, giant lounge and dining room and four really nice bedrooms. The having a bath in the old jail cells with a glass of white wine is definitely a unique experience. We all loved the fact there was no reception or wifi. A perfect place for a weekend away. Can't wait to come back. It was the perfect venue for my 40th. :-) Thanks for having us!! xx😍

I stayed at The Courthouse as a writer’s retreat courtesy of the owners Kate and Rob, St Albans Writers’ Festival, and the Faber Academy at Allen & Unwin. This place is a real gem: a beautiful sandstone building and an amazing piece of history in gorgeous surrounds. I’d forgotten what it means to totally unplug and relax, and I wrote a tremendous… amount as a result. Kate was very helpful when I really needed the internet or phone, so there’s no concern about being completely cut off. Kate and Rob were so friendly and helpful all round, which to me are the essentials
