Services
Chinchilla Motel is ideally situated on the Warrego Highway, 219 kms west of Brisbane, or 43 kms east of Miles and is suited for visitors on long journeys from Western Queensland to Toowoomba and Brisbane, or vice versa, wanting a quiet comfortable and affordable motel where breakfast and main meals are available.
Chinchilla, a rural town in the western Darling Downs, is 160 km north-west of Toowoomba and 260 km from Brisbane. It is situated on Charleys Creek, a tributary of the Condamine River. Both the creek and the town have names deriving from Ludwig Leichhardt's expedition of 1844. More recently the town has undergone rapid population growth as workers move in to build pipelines and associated infrastructure for the coal seam gas (CSG) industry.
See the first oil bore in Australia, the dingo barrier fence with its sonic deterrent and pass other historic landmarks as you drive through this carefully managed State Forest. The Internationally acclaimed Melon Festival kicked off in 1994 and now held every 2 years (next in 2017) was originally designed to bolster the spirits of a drought stricken community (25% of Australia's melon crop is grown in Chinchilla).

Rooms were basic but clean. TV in room streaming Netflix free which was great. The only complaint was the air conditioner in the room was a very old, small box style, it was not turned on for us when we arrived (yes we'd booked in advance), and it was 39°. So we set the aircon to full speed, cooling and 16 °... it took until about 10pm for the room to be comfortable (not cold). It's situated at the far western edge of town so you're not walking distance to any restaurants etc in town.
