I had a very good stay at The Vulcan. The family-run hotel where you can chat to the owners is unique. The room I had was quiet and the bed comfy. The location is very handy to Sydney and Ultimo has enough attraction as well with Asian food outlets, Whit Rabbit Gallery, cinema and a shopping centre all close.

I was given a ground floor room for 4 nights
Let me say it wasn't ideal. Room was stuffy so had to sleep with noisy aircon on all night. (Overnight temp 23)
Opening window not an option as it was facing footpath & for some reason it attracted smokers outside my window & ubereats deliveries guess co"s it was a corner room & next to laneway. No room service so had to buy extra toilet roll/ soap. I guess it was bad timing being 31 dec.-4th Jan.
Clean enough so i will try again Easter time.
Just my opinions good luck for 2022.

Dont look at the bad reviews that some people put on this hotel. They sometimes fake. Look at the real people that have visited the places and have many reviews on them ( as Google local guides )
This hotel is a perfect little getaway. I sent them email with requests, and the Manager and the team have completely done it perfectly to my requests. Me and my partner stayed there for a night to feel the city nightlife were very happy to get a great welcoming and helpful staffs from the owner that we saw in the morning at breakfast time, the chef at the café to the front desk ladies that greeting

Upon checking in the front desk provided us with our room key. Only to find the room was already occupied by other guests. Returned to the front desk and the woman was stunned that she provided me with the ‘wrong key’.
Upon entering the correct room we found the walls to be completely not sound proof hearing absolutely every word of the neighbouring guests.
To top it off we found a massive blood stain on the sheets that we had been laying in. When approaching the front desk for the second time the lady again appeared stunned with no resolution to the simple issue - change the sheets and throw

To be completely honest, the photos on the website are much more alluring than the rooms in real life. If you've booked the cheapest room, bear in mind that it's quite small, especially the bathroom. My knees literally touched the shower glass and I'm below average height.
Other than that, it has an old-time charm. It's a fairly old building so there's a lot of creaky floorboards to be heard but it was definitely a comfortable stay.

Very unprofessional. Disappointed with the service! Harvey & Carole the owner say they are gonna get back to you and NEVER do. They don't care about you, they're extremely condescending and just wanna take your money. AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS. They need a lesson on how to run a hotel, yes it's a boutique hotel but proper polices need to be put in place. I think they Should retire already in all honesty! doing a really bad job. Don't make promises if you can't keep them. No matter how busy you are a quick call / email out of courtesy is that simple. People take the time and effort, prepare

The place was clean and scenty.
I love the ambience and the atmosphere of the hotel.
The downside of it was just we found one staff who was rude to us. She was knocking on our door to tell us to minimize our voices.. We were just talking in our normal voices. Otherwise she will check and inspect on our room.. We found it inconvenient for us because we end up talking like in a whispering manner during our stay. We did not know the hotel is like a library. No talking loudly. Then we have to minimize the sound of the television because that staff might knock on us again. So we end up relying on

It is what is says on the tin, and for central Sydney service delivered at a good price. Don’t expect fancy, but comfy bed, good size room and bathroom. Cute courtyard and reception staff delightful and wanting to help. Really can’t pick faults with this stay. Can recommend this place if you are just looking for a bed for the night.

The service at Vulcan Hotel was outstanding. I found the staff friendly and attentive. The hotel itself is in a central location, especially close to the university. The facilities within the room were well maintained. I will definitely stay again on my next visit to Sydney!
