Tynwald Willow Bend Estate
Tynwald offers both bed and breakfast and self-catering accommodation near Hobart. Set amid 16 riverfront hectares in Tasmania's beautiful Derwent Valley, you can stroll at your leisure, breathe in the fresh country air and imagine the days gone by. The rich history of this elegant mansion has been retained, all rooms are furnished with genuine antiques, giving it a special ambience.

Still with all the modern comforts, and some rooms have a spa. The Granary is a self-catering quaint stone cottage, formerly the grain store for the old mill. Borrow the fishing rods and try your luck, just beyond the front door. The peaceful scenery outdoors can be admired while ambling along the river walks which lead to a wetlands park and sanctuary for many birds, and to the esplanade of New Norfolk 2 kilometres away.
Services
Tynwald sits on 40 riverfront acres, and was built early in 1830 by John and Martha Terry. Possibly unhappy with the terms of the lease and the size of the allotment at Liverpool, south west of Sydney, Terry moved his family and business to Van Diemen's Land. By the end of 1820 Terry was grinding wheat on what was now known as the 'Lachlan River Mill'.
Tynwald has just seven rooms for overnight guests, two with spas. All are furnished with antiques and offering peace and tranquility in the Tasmanian countryside, just half an hour from Hobart. All rooms have electric heaters, flat screen digital television, tea making facilities with biscuits, fridge, iron and ironing board, quality toiletries, monogramed towels and dressing gowns.
Named after the River Derwent, which flows from Lake St Clair to Hobart right past the Estate. The Derwent room is located on the first floor, and offers the luxury of a very large spa, in the en-suite. The room is furnished with antiques, including a genuine Victorian Half Tester queen size bed, CD player & flat screen digital T.V. complimentary port, chocolates, and fresh flowers.
The Meander Room is on the first floor and has a double and a single bed, so is ideal for a double, twin or three people. This room and the Boyer Room have the one full bathroom, with a shower over a bath, for the two rooms. When combined with The Boyer Room, it is ideal for a family or 2 couples traveling together.
Now converted into a self contained cottage, with two levels. The bedroom, upstairs, has double and single bed & sleeps up to three people. The ground floor has a full kitchen and a cozy lounge with a slow combustion wood fire, CD player & flat screen T.V, complimentary port, chocolates, and fresh flowers.

Stayed at this establishment a few years ago and me and my family are always reminiscing on the beautiful stay we had. such magical mornings, waking up to the sun-rise on the balcony peaking through the trees. Very comfortable sleep and a beautiful and relaxing environment. We
will absolutely be returning soon! Cannot wait for COVID to end to come back!

Amazing experience, my daughter booked so I wasn't sure what I was in for but I soon felt at home. The owners looked after our every request going above and beyond to make it the best experience with a home made cheese platter ordered at the last second and a bottle of wine on the verandah. Very clean very friendly and such a pretty grounds for those that like to take a walk. Thanks, so much

It was certainly an experience 😁😁😁 . The elderly couple that own and run it are very sweet. Beautiful grounds. Good beds. Very very old fashioned and old style accommodation. We didn't have dinner here but it smelt fantastic!! Very quaint. More suited to an older generation. The history on the house is interesting.

Real trip back in time. Beautiful experience, really clean and lovely place. Gary and Pam are incredibly welcoming and great for a chat. Food was great, especially the desserts! Thank you again, would recommend staying here to everyone I know.

The building was lovely and took you back in time, lots of character. Had a nice breakfast. The only negative I have is check out was at 10am however, the lady that runs the hotel came into our room at around 9:45am and began stripping the beds whilst we were packing up the rest of our things. It kinda reminded me of staying at my grandmas place. We felt rushed and pushed out the door in a hurry. I understand that they had more guests arriving later however I thought that was unprofessional and unwelcoming. I think they’ve been there too long working hard and are due for a holiday.

The mansion might be loved by others, we found it a terrible experience. The room was old and when you walked around, the dust came out of the carpet.
The bathroom didn’t even have a bathroom sink.
Might be this was an excellent place to stay years ago but for us it didn’t work. We didn’t even spend the night there and drove back to Hobart and rented an AirBnB for the next night. A huge disappointment!

What a wonderful place to stay. Especially if you are interested in beautiful old houses, Tynwald is 200 yrs old. The interior is just as it was then, so very interesting inside and out in the gardens. The owners are both chefs, we didn't have an evening meal in their restaurant but if breakfast was anything to go by then I'm sure dinner would be wonderful too.
