Our main focus at AHLP is the treatment of lymphoedema. Lymphoedema is the accumulation of a protein rich fluid in the tissues caused by an interruption of the lymphatic flow. This can be due to genetic abnormality, surgery, trauma or cancer treatments. It can affect the limbs, trunk, head and neck or genital area.
Primary Lymphoedema is due to a genetic malformation of the lymphatic system and can be present at birth or manifest at different stages of life. Secondary Lymphoedema is most commonly seen where the lymphatic system has been damaged / compromised by cancer treatment. Lipoedema is a progressive hereditary disorder.
