Syd & Phyllis, a cafe|restaurant in the Midland Railway Workshops, a place where our modern, youthfulness meets the history and heritage of the precinct and our name. Where you can be assured you can dine in or pick up food, coffee or cold drinks for any occasion that showcases the great produce of WA.
We serve food, coffee, hot drinks, cold drinks, beer, wine & spirits all sourced right here in WA. Our menus change constantly, both food and drink, depending on what we have available and in season. We are passionate about supporting small business and WA produce, and we only want to showcase this the best way we know how.

Pop worked most of his life on the railways, which is why the railway workshops is the perfect place for our first venture. Before we lost Nan, Sam & I sat with her and Pop and told them we wanted to open a cafe. Nan simply said "why haven't you done it then?" Such a simple statement that turned the cogs - two days after this conversation Phyllis left us.

I was served 4 small strips of uncooked, low quality beef. Despite the fact it was blue, they assured me that it was medium rare and could not be cooked any further. Even simple dishes like pancakes just weren't done right, they came out like massive chunky donuts with no flavor. The chef really needs to start from scratch and taste the food he's serving.

The set up of the outdoor seating area is very thoughtful and nice, and 'Seeing is believing. The Bolt coffee beans are used to make home coffee. It is so wonderful in autumn to enjoy the morning sun and receiving a cool breeze when a cup of hot coffee is near your mouth and nose. Looking far to the Railway Square open space and the peaceful scene, joining the quiet environment, is so fabulous. Blessed to whoever receiving the love in this gifted land. Cheers!

Popped by for an early lunch on the 19th with a g/f. As we were early we appreciated the chef let us order from the lunch menu as it was only 11ish and some people were still having breakfast. We ordered a share plate for 2, a coffee and a ginger tonic. It was great value, very fresh and delicious the bread was so moist and had such a lovely flavour, fresh basil added to the sensation, our plate had delicious tomatoes, Italian ham, chorizo and a lovely white cheese, fresh salad fine sliced red and white cabbage, spinach leaves and an amazing dip, which I thought was made from broccoli. Yes yes yes! I feel like Midland is starting to emerge from the depths of foodie dull drums! Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Local produce, farm to table. Bolt coffee! Dog friendly.
A nice amount of indoor and outdoor seating. First cab off the food ranks at the Midland workshops..I hope it becomes a little foodie hub!
Then out comes the lamb ragu fettucini I ordered for lunch and I was sold. Syd and Phyllis you rock! It was like a plate of pure comfort food. Tender melt in your mouth lamb flavour bombs and not fatty. Yep it was one of those dishes that made you want to face plant into and blow
