Tae Kwon Do is a modern and effective fighting art and self defence system. Tae Kwon Do combines striking with hands and powerful kicks with defensive blocks and takedowns. You learn basic strikes, kicks and blocks which build into fighting combinations. To help you learn how to defend yourself this is combined with partnered training and non-contact sparring.
You study set patterns of movements called "hyung" or "patterns" that combine mastery of technique and footwork.

Services
Established in 1971, we are the oldest martial arts club at UQ and have friendly, experienced instructors. We are an ITF style affiliated with the Sang Dan style of Tae Kwon Do. Our style of Tae Kwon Do has evolved as an effective martial art. We concentrate on practical self defence. Students are given a broad range of techniques that actually work on the mats or on the street.
In addition to our regular training sessions, the club runs a variety of events and meetups throughout the year, including bootcamp weekends, cocktail parties and social meetups. Once per semester the club runs a bootcamp weekend, with an awesome (and exhausting) 14 hours of training jammed into a single weekend.
We train in the University of Queensland's Martial Arts Gym (MAG) in the UQ Sport complex on Union Road at University of Queensland, St Lucia. The MAG is one of Brisbane's handful of purpose built martial arts training halls and we are very lucky to have such a good venue combining both mats and polished floors.
Just turn up! Your first week of training is free so you can see what we're all about. With a blend of whole-class exercises and one-on-one instruction, beginners are welcomed and eased into the club. We know that people can learn good technique elsewhere, so it doesn't help you or us for you to be placed too low in the ranking system.
