At JKA Karate Warranwood and Wonga Park we teach a traditional form of Shotokan Karate. We run separate kids and adults classes, and cater to beginners and advanced students alike. Our Karate classes are held twice a week, Wonga Park on Monday Nights, and Warranwood on Friday Nights. Come along and watch a class, or join in and try two free lessons.
Beginners are always welcome, and you can join at any time.

Services
We teach traditional Shotokan karate at both Warranwood and Wonga Park locations as part of the Japan Karate Association Australia (JKAA). The Japan Karate Association (JKA) HQ is based in Tokyo, Japan, and is one of the largest karate organizations in the world, with branches in almost every country.
Our children's classes are shorter than the senior class (and more fun!), and are generally for kids 6 - 12 years of age. We really want the kids to have fun in our classes, so that they enjoy their time at the dojo and want to keep coming back. To achieve this, we mix our kihon, kumite and kata with some small games and activities, however the focus will always be for your child to learn karate - not games.
Take advantage of our 2 free lessons, to come along and try JKA karate with no commitment, and see if its what you are looking for. Wear loose fitting clothes and shoes/socks that you can easily remove, as we train in bare feet, and don't forget the water bottle! If you decide to join we can guide you in what type of Dogi to purchase.
In almost every karate dojo you will see the students wearing a particular style of karate uniform, which is called a "Dogi" and often referred to as just "gi". There are a few reasons why we all wear a dogi and not shorts and a t-shirt while training. One reason is that we are training in a historical Japanese Martial Art, so we should embrace the traditions and history of the art while we train.

If parents are looking for a safe environment where children can learn a traditional form of Karate that incorporates both the physical and philosophical aspect of Shotokan, then I highly recommend this club. We found Tony Sensei to be both patient and dedicated to the ongoing progression of his students. Even during lockdown he would host multiple zoom sessions a week - at no cost - to encourage his students to practice. However, we're looking forward to our children attending on-site classes again!

My 6 year old son trains at JKA wonga park and I couldn't be happier with the positive, encouraging, friendly and safe enviroment which the Sensei provides. There is also a playground next door which is great for his siblings while they wait for their brother. I would highly recommend JKA karate to all my family and friends.
