JKA Shotokan Karate
Shotokan karate is a non-aggressive self defence martial art. Karate fosters the development of spiritual qualities: courage, courtesy, integrity, humility and self-control. The purpose of JKAA is to develop and promote JKA Shotokan karate in Australia. Our instructors are certified by JKA Headquarters based in Tokyo, Japan.

The standards taught are of the highest level in keeping with the technical requirements set by JKA HQ. Our goal is to maintain these standards, to grow and to help all our students achieve their personal goals and aspirations. Karate training is a great way to improve your overall health and fitness.
Services
The Japan Karate Association ("JKA") practices the original Shotokan karate style as taught by Funakoshi Gichin Sensei, who is widely regarded as the founder of modern day karate. JKA is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan and the JKA budo karate we uncompromisingly practice is specified by a Japanese-based Chief Instructor.

Nishimura Shihan is the founder and Chief Instructor of JKA Australia. He began karate training as a teenager in 1958 in Japan. Due to over 60 years of training, international recognition for services in conducting seminars, specialist teaching and networking with the Japanese Karate Association in Tokyo, Japan, his far reaching contribution is embedded in the Australian karateka spirit.

JKA GREATER MELBOURNE - NORTH MELBOURNE MONTHLY SENBON GEIKO TRAINING (qian ben ji gu) The JKA North Melbourne Branch will be conducting a special monthly "Senbon Geiko" (1,000 training) training sessions. Shotokan is the name of the style or system of karate practiced by JKAA, it literally means 'House of Shoto' which was our founder, Funakoshi Gichin Shihan's calligraphy pen name and became the name of the first official dojo in Tokyo in 1939.The Japan Karate Association (JKA) are the World's foremost authority on Karate.
