Services
Our standard consultation runs for 15 minutes and an extended consultation for 30 minutes. Please note that we have a small surcharge for visits on Saturdays. Please let us know if you are bringing in a new puppy or kitten. We like to allocate a double appointment (30 minutes) for these consultations, as there is usually a lot to cover and many questions to answer.
Because pets age so rapidly, major health changes can occur in a short amount of time. The risk of cancer, diabetes, obesity, arthritis, heart disease and other serious conditions all increase with age. Today's pets are living longer than ever and chances are that many may experience a potentially serious illness during their lifetime.
At Mont Albert Vet we recommend that all adult dogs have an annual vet visit which includes a thorough general health check and vaccination. Puppies need a series of vaccinations and health checks between 6-8 weeks and 16 weeks. Puppies need a series of vaccinations to protect them from common diseases during their first few months.
Fleas are most often seen during the warmer months but, because we usually keep our homes nice and warm throughout winter, we do see fleas all year round. Only a small part of the adult flea population actually lives on your pet. Fleas will tend to jump onto your pet only to feed and then jump off again but the fleas' eggs and larvae live in the environment and can survive for up to a year.
Mont Albert Vet recommends that all dogs living in our region of Melbourne be on a heartworm prevention medication. Heartworm is present throughout most of mainland Australia. Once a dog is infected with heartworm, treatment is possible but can be expensive and risky. Preventing infection is the best strategy.
