The Dunkirk Hotel
Built in 1879 and steeped in tradition, the iconic Dunkirk Hotel in Sydney truly has been Pyrmont's local for almost 150 years. Formerly the Butcher's Arms Hotel, it was renamed in the 1940s to commemorate The Battle of Dunkirk.

This tired, rundown, and dilapidated old hotel underwent its first refurbishment in over 17 years during the first calendar quarter of 2020 - including its cellar, Main Bar, Garden Bar, Pool Room, as well as a new VIP Lounge now located at the front of the hotel on Harris Street. The hotel's bottleshop has had an upgrade and now stocks an extensive range of beer, spirits, wine, sparkling and champagne.

Just when you thought the bistro couldn't get any worse, they doing 'pop up' errr, I mean cold delivery pizza and steamed mushy schnitty that's been in a bag from around the corner. I don't understand why they can't fix this and have a decent kitchen and we can all come for drinks and food and enjoy it. Just close already if you can't run a pub in a densely populated area where everyone wants to go out drinking 3 nights of the week. Seriously, sell the place.

Good old fashion pub over looking a messy intersection. I love it for it old pub values and the traffic entertainment. Could do with a good kitchen which would earn it a star.

Well kept beer, $4.50 happy hours! (4-6) some rotation on the guest beer tap. (Montieth's and German sections regular shows)
Friendly staff, very tollerant of the kids! Upstairs (front) usually empty where they can move around a bit. Some toys provided for the younger ones.
Table tennis out the back.
New darts room!
A few cheeky balconies for sitting outside.

The renovations have breathed new life into this pub. It's looking great and plenty of separated areas. Good food available at Inferno grill too!

Stayed 4 nights for a $100 a night in may. Loved it, bed was good pillows where ok to good room was clean. Toilet leaked a bit but once you closed the door couldn't hear it. Only stairs to the rooms they are in ok condition. The bar is peach of a bar cheap beer good food staff are nice and seam to like there jobs. Location is prime close to a lot of Sydney or public transport. The photo is of the view from the toilet when you open the window maybe only open it when your seated... I will be back.

Came here for after work drinks with colleagues on Thursday night. We missed the Happy Hour but the Cocktails on tap deal (get two for $18) was still available & did the job. Food’s by Inferno Grill from Maroubra. Had the Fish & Chips, which was decent, but the battered thick chips were the highlight for me. The young guy who manned the bar was friendly & attentive.

Great place recommended by one of the staff in Darling Harbour. Everyone was really welcoming and friendly, the food was great and at normal prices, not crazy DH prices. Would definitely recommend. If you want great value for money, tasty honest food and a great welcome, go. Would go back again for sure. Definitely Pom friendly!🤪

Booked the function room upstairs for a venue and couldn’t be any happier. My family have had many functions here for Birthdays, Christmas parties etc and all have been very successful. Dennis who is in charge is excellent! So easy to deal with will do almost anything to make your function perfect. Highly recommended.

Extremely impressed. The service is amazing, and the food is the die for. Visiting Sydney and came across some extremely rude people. Walked in and got the best welcome with arms wide open. Dennis the owner is amazing. His customer servise is perfect! Went out of his way to welcome us and make sure we were happy. Dinner was great and we went back for breakfast. Can't recommend this place enough!

Dunkirk Hotel is a hilariously old-school, old-man pub. Pricewise, beer isn't bad there for Sydney. The welcome isn't the warmest, though.

It seems as if Harris Street is the main street in Pyrmont, and where thing pretty much are happening, and it was when I was wandering along it that I came across this pub. Okay, I already knew this pub was here (because, as my Dad said, I know where all the pubs are - which is not quite true). Anyway, if found that it was quite a peaceful little pub with a nice (but really small) courtyard in the middle. You can eat in here, but only until around mid-afternoon when it become reserved for the smokers. The place was pretty quiet, and the staff really nice, and it is a place that I would return sometime

The best $10 rump I have experienced for some time. Some restaurants in the area charge $30 for a piece of meat a third as goods as this. Keep it up. Well done!

Oh, for the days when pubs were built like fortresses!
With thick walls to keep the teetotallers out, and the drunks in.
With thoughts only for practicality, and none for style.
With many TVs for the sports, all the sports, all the time.

The Dunkirk is across the road from the Quarrymans, which is more of a new-age craft beer pub, but doesn't have the grand old tradie feel of the 'Kirk, which has a giant bar, lots of function areas and bistro bits and bobs if you need some quiet time to call the missus so the rest of the boys won't hear, or to cry when your team gets knocked out
