Samford Psychologist Sharyn Ferris is a graduate of University of Queensland and as a psychologist has over 30 years' experience working both in private practice and as a consultant in corporate settings. Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life. Tip toe if you must, but take the step. Your story, your pain, and your collection of struggles are unique to you. There is no one-size fits all approach to therapy. Together we will spend time understanding exactly what you are experiencing, and why, so that when you start making changes that improve your life, they will stick.
The perinatal period, lasting from pregnancy to the first 12 months after giving birth can be a period of significant adjustment, for the mother and child and other family members. There are major physical changes, emotional changes, and often lifestyle changes associated with this stage of life. Sometimes women will also experience miscarriage during pregnancy, and the sense of loss associated with this can be significant.
Major life changes often lead to stress, and stress often leads to agitation or angry outbursts. Stress also causes unhappiness and, if left unresolved, can have serious health consequences. In situations of significant life change, counselling can help you contain your stress and find perspective.
Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible. Adjustment to ill health, injury, and/or disability is often associated with experiencing mood-related symptoms and/or anxiety regarding the future. Early intervention can moderate or prevent psychological disturbance by providing effective skills to manage problems in all areas of a person's life.

As a trainer with ALLI (Australian Learning and Leading Institute) I have found Sharryn to be a thorough professional. Her experience as a psychologist was generously shared with our organisation in a recent training experience. I learned so much! Sharryn's advice on working with people provided me with so many strategies. Her industry experience was very evident as well as her vast experience as a psychologist. Her easy going approach put me at ease and I was so grateful for the experience. My sincere thanks Sharryn!
