Adoption Research & Counselling Service
Adoption Research and Counselling Service Inc (arcs) is an independent, not-for-profit community agency offering professional counselling, support, education, research and information to anyone living with the reality of adoption and/or being separated from family. Since 1984, arcs has been there for those affected by adoption and loss of relationship with family.

We provide specialist services that are responsive to the complex issues faced by all of those dealing with the loss and pain of separation from family, and the challenges of reconnection. As a specialist agency in the field of adoption, arcs is unique in that we work with all parties to adoption. Our experience tells us that adoption is a life long experience.
Services
Dr. Winkler's research recognised adoption as a life long experience with unique and ongoing challenges for all parties to the adoption - birth parents, adopted people and adoptive parents. Dr Winkler's vision for arcs was to provide safe and specialist services whilst recognising and respecting all affected by adoption.
Since 1984, arcs has been there for those affected by adoption and loss of relationship with family. We provide specialist services that are responsive to the complex issues faced by all those dealing with the loss and pain of separation from family and the challenges of reconnection. Sometimes when we experience profound change, it is reassuring to find a team who has the experience to offer focus and support.
As both a client and a management committee member, Beverley has a long association with arcs. Her work history with a series of not-for-profit organisations has given Beverley an understanding of the challenges and opportunities that face organisations such as arcs.

Beverley is interested in working to ensure that the special expertise, knowledge and skill of arcs is able to continue to help heal those faced with the trauma of separation and loss within families.Moira is a marketing, communications and fundraising specialist with over 15 years' experience in commercial and not-for-profit organisations.
Our knowledge and experience informs our therapeutic counselling program. Sometimes when we experience profound change, it is reassuring to find a team who has the experience to offer expertise and knowledge in the adoption field. Since 1983 our service has been there for all those whose lives have been touched by an adoption experience.
Our work is integrative and experiential. The children we see often have sensory processing issues and their trauma memories are implicit and somatic. Research has established that early trauma effects brain development, emotional regulation, ability to form secure relationship and academic performance.

I generally don't write reviews but I want to show my appreciation for the counselling, specialist knowledge and genuine care I have received from ARCS over many years. This is a warm, welcoming organisation who I would highly recommend to others.

Appalling service. They treated us like we were criminals. My partner, with my support was trying to connect with his adopted daughter but we got treated with almost disdain. He left there feeling as though he had been beaten up and my comment was that they were man haters. Don't waste your time!

Do NOT come to these people. They manipulate family court reports in a way to have more and more business from Fathers and Mothers. In my opinion if you goto them, you will end up having NO relationship with your child and they will keep damaging it so that they have to make money by providing more and more counselling.
Be very careful, its your child and this organisation is there to make money out of your problem and have NO empathy towards you or the child. Its a money making setup they use and call themselves a NOT for profit organisation.

I dont even want to give them any star.
This company is supposed to help bring family's back together all they have done is destroyed any relationship that we could of had by not allowing one of the children to get to know their family, the way they do things is repulsive and manipulative in the worst way. A friend has tried so hard to spend more time with their child, and they have done nothing but ignore any contact they have bee trying to make to see their child, and the child was not allowed to meet any other person in the family, what kind of counselling does that, it is discusting.
