Services
The Oval Physio has cared for over 35,000 people since we first opened our doors in 1991. We originally established our practice at North Sydney Oval to support the North Sydney Rugby League Football Club. Our ethos is to provide our patients with the best physiotherapy service possible. We want to help them get out of pain in the shortest possible time with the least number of visits.
Every person is different. Your physiotherapist will tailor your session to suit your particular needs and state of health. Taking a thorough history and examination to determine a diagnosis of your condition and needs. Your first appointment will take around 45 minutes and we suggest you allow 30 minutes for follow-up appointments.
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles working together to provide stability and to rotate the shoulder joint. Rotator cuff degeneration and injury is very common. Many people find it difficult to manage and 'put up with it' for some time before seeing help. In some cases, physiotherapy can prevent the need for surgery which also involves prolonged periods of mobilisation and rehabilitation.
The goal of physiotherapy is to provide relief from the symptoms, normalise joint and soft tissue mobility, and establish an effective exercise program that works for you. During the examination, your physiotherapist will evaluate the progression of symptoms, mechanism of the injury, posture and assess prior level of function.
Your head is relatively heavy compared to the seven bones (vertebrae) that support it. The vertebrae are separated from each other by discs, stabilised by ligaments and moved by muscles. Because your neck is mobile, it is prone to injury and wear and tear. Finding the source of the pain and identifying how it behaves indicates to the physio where the underlying pathology might be and what treatment is required.

After seeing a chiro and a surgeon I was told that I probably needed to have a shoulder replacement, so I went to see Joel. I’ve been following his exercise program for a few months now and my shoulder continues to improve. The thought of having any surgery is long gone. Highly recommended.

Joel is an absolute professional and is the key reason I did not undertake surgery for my shoulder rotator cuff.
I saw Joel in August 2017 in tears and feeling very worried. An MRI had shown a bad tear in my shoulder and I had seen a specialist who had said surgery was required. The tear was a result of overuse and surgery meant no driving for 6 weeks and obviously none of my sport for the next 6 months plus intensive rehab.
Joel was calm, direct, emphatic and his review was the injury was on the cusp, meaning I could go either way. Physio was certainly an option but I had to be prepared to do

I was set to have surgery on my back when a friend of mine suggested that I go to see Joel at the Oval Physiotherapy. How lucky was that! A most caring practice with true professionals. My back is now much, much better and I have been able to go back to my hiking - which I thought was lost to me forever. I cannot say a big enough thank you to Joel and his team. I would recommend this Clinic without hesitation.
