Paynes Rise Wines
Currently our wines are available at cellar door, by mail order, our online store and at selected outlets. We aim to present a place rich in history charm and character, where our visitors can relax and enjoy our fine wines. We too love dogs but unfortunately can not allow them as we have animals on the property, please leave your fur babies at home.

The Elm RoomThe Elm Room is our newest function space perfect for a more intimate gathering. Unfortunately we have had to close our doors again due to Lockdown 5.0 and the current restrictions to trade. A huge thank you to. We are excited that Payne's Rise has been included in The Real Review Top Wineries of Australia 2021!
Services
Paynes Rise Wines in the Upper Yarra Valley is a small family run vineyard and wine business specialising in small batch wines produced from carefully selected fruit from their vineyard in Seville, Victoria. It is the realisation of many years of hard work, dedication and passion of Tim and Narelle Cullen.
Before settling in Seville, Mr Payne worked in the goldfields and building trades, mastering the skills of lath plastering and the like. These skills were applied to the construction of his lath and plaster home overlooking the valleys of Seville and Wandin. This original building has withstood the vagaries of time and remains a proud sentinel to times past.
In the mid 1860's at the same time our Thomas Payne was settling in Seville Hubert de Castella and Guillane de Pury established St Huberts and Yeringberg vineyards. The area covered by these vineyards was 430 acres thus providing for a flourishing wine industry for the region.

Other varieties grown in the Yarra Valley are white varieties of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Pinot Gris and in smaller quantities Riesling, Viognier, Marsanne, Rousanne and Verduzzo.Red varieties grown are Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot and in lesser quantities Melbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese and Nebbiolo.
Our vineyard is situated on a North facing slope of Seville in the Upper Yarra Valley region. This area experiences cooler average temperatures than the Northern and Central regions of the Valley, mainly due to its higher elevation. The elevation of our particular site is 200m above sea level. The soil type is an immensely deep and fertile red volcanic light clay soil.
At Paynes Rise we realise that your wedding day is a very special occasion. From the moment you make contact through to the day your event takes place, everyone at Paynes Rise will be doing their utmost to ensure that your event is a truly memorable experience. We understand that it is a very personal and an important day, which requires a lot of thought and planning to ensure it will be a day to remember for all.

A group of us came to Payne's Rise Winery in Seville as the last stop of our winery tour that day. It was a lovely winery to finish at, and very pretty and scenic as we sat in the sun overlooking the little lake.

The staff are very knowledgeable and attentive for wine tasting and we really enjoyed the experience. The new eating area is wonderful. It's lovely to sit in the spacious sunny area overlooking such a great view. It's a pretty good menu with a generous cheese platter, delicious dips and pizzas. What a shame the pizzas are so sparse with toppings. Inches to spare all around the edges. Bases tasted good but honestly pumpkin is so cheap but we could hardly find it.disappointing.Not worth a return visit.

Had a lovely time here on Saturday. Beautiful seating scattered around the lawn so nothing feels too crowded. Very friendly service. The food was excellent for sharing and I particularly loved the rosé for a sunny day.

Yummy wine and pretty views. We saw this on the kid-friendly list but I would say it is not kid-friendly like many of the others we have visited. No balls allowed, a Jenga game was out but told we could not play and signs advising watching your kids at ALL times just give a feel that they're not encouraged here. Gluten free pizza crust was yummy.but GF cookies not so much.

Gorgeous relaxing boutique winery with some nice drinking now wines. Enjoyed alfresco lunch of pizza and platter… outdoors with great views over Vineyard and rolling hills. Friendly helpful staff. Interesting old homestead to take a quick look around. Lovely extremely clean spacious toilets a real bonus. Highly recommend a visit.

I have been here on numerous occasions for different events and what’s not to love! Some of the best views of the valley accompanied with great tasting wine! I also love family owned business and they just do it so well!

We had been recommended to go to Payne’s Rise so decided to give it a try for lunch with our daughter on Father’s Day this year. Even though they were busy the staff in the restaurant warmly welcomed us and seated us promptly on arrival. We chose to share pizzas (yum!) and the dips (also yum!) and settled on a delicious bottle of Rose which complimented the food perfectly. After lunch we went to the tasting room and tasted the Shiraz and Cab Sav. Needless to say we were sold on the Shiraz and Rose. The staff were very helpful with their explanations of the wine.
Before we left we had a walk

A nice little vineyard and cellar door. Simple menu with woodfired pizza, usual suspects for Yarra Valley cool climate wines, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cab Sav, Shiraz - 6 varieties on tasting, all pleasant. Excellent grounds and views. Historic homestead a bonus. Pizza dough was a little thick but toppings were nice. Lots of open space for kids to run amok or for just chilling on the lawns.
