Absolute crooks. i got ripped off so bad by these people.car broke down, due to old battery. I missed super important appointment. I had to pay RACV, then go to switch the broken down car, 2 hours out of my way. then i got charged 100 bucks extra for cleaning fee from the swapped broken down car....and it wasn't even dirty.....

My name is Stacey and I took back a lovely rental car to Backpacker Car Rentals
Their service was friendly and professional and I would highly recommend them for their prices and service and of course a great reliable vehicle. I'm a frequent traveller from Darwin to Perth and will use them again and recommend to people in Darwin. Thanks very much.

I've used backpacker car rentals twice, and had great service both times. The cars aren't brand new, but in my experience, reliable, tidy, and VERY reasonably priced.
I also required the car for a few hours longer than the contract ran for, and the company negotiated a time with us for no extra charge, leaving the car at the compound after hours.
They provide friendly and quick service, and I'd recommend this company to anyone wanting a cheap/reliable runabout for around perth that's not worried about having all the latest mod-cons.

I was only suppose to rent a car for a week or two until I found myself one to buy.
But I ended up renting it for more than two months. so I think I liked it. There was never any problems.
The lady in the office is always nice, and the times when I couldn't make it before closure to pay next week rent she was fine with it.
The only bad thing was that when you are under 24 yo you have to pay an extra fee of 35 dollars every week, but I rented the car for more than two months so that was not a big problem.
I was very happy with that little excel!

Although I have read other negative comments about Backpacker Car Rentals, my experience was quite the opposite. Yes the cars you pay the cheapest price for may be old-ish but hence the fact that you pay $110 a week instead of $200+ a week with rival companies hiring out new cars. I had no problems with my Hyundai Excel which I hired out for over a month and used daily. The staff couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. On a couple of occasions I outran the hire of the car and they just called me up to see if I wanted it for another week and this was not a problem. My friends and I have had several

Would'nt recomment this company to anyone for reasons listed
1. Car we were given was 12 years old and falling apart
2. This company takes $500 deposit off you regardless of the age of car, I could have bought one for that.
3. Customer service is very poor.
4. when the car broke down which is expected for the age, it got towed away by the RAC, I was left at the side of the road with no way of getting home, I had to get a train and then walk 6kms to my house this was at 10pm in the evening.
this company then had the cheek to call me the next day and tell me I had to pay for the RAC, even after
