Services
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art developed primarily by the Gracie family in Brazil over the course of the 20th century that focuses on taking the opponent to the ground where he can be controlled and forced to submit with a huge variety of chokes and joint locks.
During training and competition all submission holds are applied in a measured and progressive manner so that there is plenty of time to "tap out" before any damage is caused and a student applying a submission will always release the hold immediately to ensure his opponents safety.

Excellent BJJ taught by one of the closest Gracie Family teachers you'll find in Melbourne. Ben it's is highly competent, professional, patient, and friendly with all newcomers, and higher belts alike.
I've loved coming to train under him for years, even with private lessons, and continue to enjoy every lesson under his great tutelage.

I Had previously read and heard a lot about the benefits of BJJ before joining Bens Academy, but the benefits cannot be fully understood until you actually begin training yourself.. And for me, the benefits are only growing the more I train and learn.. There’s something very primitive about rolling around with another human in an aggressive, but… still playful, respectful and controlled way, it is very satisfying to say the least.
Bens academy provides a perfect atmosphere to learn Jiu Jitsu, it is very balanced in its nature, in the sense it’s not a hardcore barking orders kind

Ben Hall has created a rare thing, a Jiu Jitsu academy with a welcoming family atmosphere and an evironment in which people at all stages of their Jiu Jitsu journey can thrive. From beginers and recreational practioners through to dedicated competitors the Carlson Gracie Academy has something to offer. I consider myself lucky to have found such a great club and knowledgeable instructor.

I've been training here for about two years with no prior BJJ experience. The quality of the tuition along with the friendly, helpful demeanour of all of the members really sets it apart from other academies. Ben is a fantastic teacher and a bunch of other black belts are always available to answer questions and break down techniques. Heaps of classes to choose from to fit your schedule, and a great atmosphere.

I came to jiu-jitsu a little later than most but am so lucky and grateful to have found Ben Hall's Carlson-Gracie Academy to start my training. Ben is a master instructor and there is a perfect combination of technical skill development and competitive practice. I haven't met a member regardless of their belt class who hasn't been willing to offer advice when you ask. It's a great learning environment and fun place to train. Highly recommended!

Walked in approx a year ago, met Ben, he offered a trial session but I didn’t take one coz the place just felt right... signed up right after and never looked back since ... the bunch here are real tight, there… is plenty of help and guidance from all levels... you have access to over 5 black belts ... a ton of brown and purple belts most of them with close to a decade or more exp each... in short you have a real tight bunch of BJJ veterans who are humble and always ready to help. Exclusive opportunities at HQ are regular weekday sessions from Ben - he brings you first hand high level

I’m a kiwi from Wellington and I have lived in Melbourne for 7years. Rugby is our sport so I didn’t think of trying anything else. After a couple of years off and earning myself a beer belly it became time to exercise again.
I had a friend training with the Ben hall Carlson Gracie team and had been preaching the sport for a while but I wasn’t… interested in rolling on the ground in pjs as a sport Surely this isn’t really a challenge and surely you can’t have the same connection as the boys on the rugby field. Boy was I wrong, awesome crew of people from all

Best gym I have ever been to. There's respect between everyone, and the atmosphere is great. It just feels so good to be there, excited to go every day. I learn every day and having a laugh is a regular every training. Everyone is lovely to be around so if you're looking for a place to train, look no further! OSS

Ben Hall Carlson Gracie isn't just a Jiu Jitsu academy it's a culture. Since starting in May I've had the opportunity to train along side some amazing people. Ben as an instructor is patient, knowledgeable and approachable with a great work ethic. The students are more than willing to help and provide a positive and safe environment. Doesn't matter your goal Ben Hall Carlson Gracie will definitely get you there whether it be weight loss, conditioning or competition.

After trying another gym in melbourne, I eventually settled on Carlson Gracie. I trained here for a year before relocating back to Sydney for work. Without a doubt the most friendly and relaxed e environment I have trained out of the 4 different academies I have trained in.
If you want somewhere informal, friendly, social.. with very high jiujitsu standards, then this place is for you.
If you want to make some good friends then this place is for you.
I would only say avoid Carlson Gracie if you are the kind of person that wants to be training in a military style "Gimme 200 push ups!!!" type

There's a lot of schools in Melbourne but I travelled over an hour each day to train in the Carlson Gracie team under Ben Hall. Ben is a world class black belt instructor and the team is packed full of Jujitsu, Judo and MMA talent. A great daily schedule to train in, my Jujitsu improved by leaps and bounds in the two years I trained there. If you want good fitness and top level skills this is the place to train in Australia. We only live once - don't settle for 2nd best.

I have been training at Ben Hall Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu for about 4 years now. I chose to train under Ben Hall because of the simple fact that he has trained and received his Black belt from Carlson Gracie himself. So i know that i am learning from the source. Ben is an amazing Instructor and goes out of his way to help all his students not just in the academy but in there personal lives to. I have made many new friends through the academy. Every one is super friendly and easy to get along with which makes the training environment very progressive and fun. I recommend it highly to every one to

A friend of mine introduced me to the Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu school. I went along met Ben Hall the instructor, and immediately was made welcome, and encouraged to join in.
I found the class to be very well structured and very intricate. I was amazed at the technicality involved (coming from a karate based style many years ago). I was also impressed with the flexibility, as it was obvious that some students favoured their own approach.
The best part for me was how friendly and approachable all the students were. After a long hiatus from martial arts training, I will definitely be back to start
