Sketches of the original Rob Roy Hotel date back to 1850. It was first licensed by Robert Peter ten years earlier in 1840, making it second only to the Queen's Head in North Adelaide as the longest continuously operating hotel in Adelaide. The hotel is named for the famous Scottish outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor.
This 18th Century Robin Hood was immortalized in Sir Walter Scott's biography (1817) and more recently in the 1995 film Rob Roy, starring Liam Neeson and Jessica Lange. Adelaide's Rob Roy Hotel was built in stages that provide a clue to its longevity. It is one of the oldest hotel buildings in the city.

Hands down the worst pub meal I have ever partially eaten. We have been here before and the food was good, but today something went very wrong in the kitchen. We ordered the haloumi burger and the meatballs. The meatballs were inedible. One bite of the tepid, dry balls was enough. The burger was diabocally bad. It came out on a white Coles bakery bun with some iceberg lettuce, 1 thick circle of red onion and it was so salty that all I could taste was salt. The McCain wedges were warm (my friend spat his out into the serviette) and to top it all off, the beer wasn't cold (unforgiveable). The male

Do not go here if you are gluten free.
Here for a work function; did not process communications sent in advance. Did not provide alternatives. Dish advertised as gluten free was in fact not gluten free, without removing part of the dish. No substitutions for that part were available.
To top it off, the salad was barely even chopped up, and had the most tasteless feta cheese I’ve ever had the misfortune of having to rely upon as a palate cleanser.
For everyone else; yeah the meat is fine, but if you have dietary restrictions or care about anything else, go somewhere else.

Rob Roy is Adelaide's best kept secret. I came here for lunch on Friday 19 March 2021. The chef here is very, very good!
The 300g sirloin steak, medium rare, was perfectly chargrilled with an intense smokey aroma but the masterpiece was the sweet potato wedges, the best I have ever tasted in my life! Outside it is light and crispy without any hint of grease, and inside all buttery creamy melt in the mouth moistness. The steak comes with red wine jus but you can choose from a wide selection of sauces. Though cooked to perfection, I do not recommend the steak because the steak itself is too lean

The manager was fantastic. She managed to give us the service and food we want and more. What’s good about this restaurant is the excellence of the food and the polite and beyond expectation customer service. I highly recommend this hotel/restaurant to anyone who wants to do parties/events or just eat with family and friends.
