Aitken Partners was founded as Aitken Walker & Strachan in 1923 by Phillip Aitken, Harold Walker and Ford Strachan. Phillip Aitken was the father of 2nd generation partners Bob and Phillip Aitken, uncle of Ford Strachan and grandfather of Robert Davey who is still with the firm.
We have grown and merged with other firms including Rank & Robinson, Leach & Thompson, Melville & Melville, Hume Lawyers, BJT (Melbourne), John Matthies & Co and DSC Lawyers and continue to look for ways to expand our services and expertise.For us, standing still is not an option. Aitken Partners' Melbourne lawyers have a broad base of expertise across a range of commercial, property, litigious and regulatory fields. We have eleven principals and 25 other professional staff, many of whom are Accredited Specialists in their fields (including commercial law, property, taxation, Wills & Estates, commercial litigation, and family law).
Aitken Partners is uniquely placed to understand the differing needs of private clients and business clients, having represented the interests of and advised both since the 1920s. Aitken Partners provides pro bono support to a number of organisations, including The Global Poverty Project and RedFlagsDV. The Global Poverty Project is an international education and advocacy organisation working to catalyse the movement to end extreme poverty.

We pride ourselves on the relationships we build with our clients, many of our clients and their families have been dealing us for decades and pre-date most of our existing staff. We are also proud to have one of the grandsons of founding partner Phillip Aitken, Robert Davey, working with us as a third-generation 'Aitken'.

I found the firm to be slow to respond to queries. I found the firm to be late to meetings. I found them to be unprofessional. I found them also to be very expensive and recommend very expensive specialists that were of poor quality. I seen them operate against good lawyers who were calm measured with a single purpose. Lots of Ego got in the way of the goal and they had a a sense of entitlement.

Jack Conway is a compassionate lawyer who listened to me when nobody else would. Even though my case was very difficult he was prepared to at least try and was good at explaining legal aspects of the case.
I never felt that it was all about the money and was always treated with respect .

I was given the highest level of professionalism, efficiency and expertise. Jack Conway was brilliant and I was swiftly put at ease with confidence and trust, in him and the process. Advice elsewhere - from other law firms - was inconsistent and inaccurate. Aitken Partners were exceptional. I really appreciate now having someone in the industry I can always turn to again. Robert Bradley and his team have helped my family with a property enquiry couple years ago. They are now helping us with a very complicated property matter (concerning compulsory acquisition, overlay and tenants in common dispute). They have shown a tremendous amount of care and diligence in their advice and approach to our problem, and have made more progress in the last 6 months than a previous law firm (refered by accountant) did the two years prior. We know we're in good hands, and would not hesitate to recommend their services.

I would not recommend Aitken Partners. I contacted them because I needed a notice/letter to be sent urgently. I had a junior associate who repeatedly advised me that they needed to review policies and procedures before they could take action as they did not want to risk their law license. They also continually requested that I send them policies/procedures/documents for other things that seemed unrelated to what I initially requested them to do. They also did not provide me with a cost disclosure despite repeatedly asking for one.

Aitken Partners is the only family law lawyers I will trust, after having the misfortune of seeking help from other lawyers who without conscience, robbed me blind and did more harm than good for my family law case by doing a really bad job.
