Just off Glenferrie Rd on Wattletree Rd is Sugo, an Italian cafe slash restaurant. I was invited her on a blogger night. I love how homely and cosy this venue is, it's a nice change from a regular cafe/bistro. It's more like you're entering someone's home.
We tried an array of dishes - it was quite overwhelming and I was trying to take everything in. The standouts for me where the marinara pasta and the meatball pasta. I would definitely come back for the meatball pasta. Special mention to the anancini balls - I've had my fair share of balls in my life and these ones were particularly good. What

Tuesday 21st March
Opposite Malvern Central is Sugo Italian, with 'Sugo' meaning the basic tomato sauce in pasta. Lured by a Liven deal we found ourselves here for an early pre-show dinner on a Tuesday Night. Spoiler - The pizza was much better than the movie!
With seats on the veranda (smoking), side and lovely air con inside! For it was a summer's day we secured a seat for one by the door I had a great view of the lantern lit part of the restaurant towards the back. Skylights added glossiness to the tables.

Sugo has pretty good food, but the rest of the dining experience was lacking.
The small plates are fun for sharing, and have a decent range. We had the smallest platter between us and six tapas-type things was a good entree size for four people, and might even be enough if you're not super hungry. (The arancini was quite popular at our table!)
We had the gnocchi and it was quite tasty even if the sauce seemed to be quite uninteresting (a marinara-type one). The osso bucco also looked really nice. I did like their mango daquiri, which was an insanely large drink in comparison to their other

Sugo is something of a Melbourne institution but I must confess, in the words of Shania Twain, That Don't Impress Me Much. Or rather, Sugo didn't.
Bland, un-yummy sauces? Not great wait staff? Too-high prices??
Yep, Sugo boasts all of the above. Considering the amount of great Italian food on offer in Melbourne, there is no reason to accept any less than the best, and Sugo is NOT the best.
