Because pets age so rapidly, major health changes can occur in a short amount of time. The risk of cancer, diabetes, obesity, arthritis, heart disease and other serious conditions all increase with age. Today's pets are living longer than ever, chances are that many may experience a potentially serious illness during their lifetime.
Vaccination has revolutionised control of infectious disease in our pets. It is essential that all pets are adequately vaccinated to help protect the pet population as a whole. Responsible pet care requires kittens to be given their initial course of vaccinations, but this cannot protect them for the rest of their lives.
Fleas are most often seen during the warmer months but as we keep our homes nice and warm throughout winter, we see fleas all year round. Only a small part of the adult flea population actually lives on your pet. The fleas' eggs and larvae live in the environment and can survive for up to a year, so it is important to not only treat your animal directly for fleas but also decontaminate the environment as well.
There are two broad categories of worms that may affect our pet dogs and cats, intestinal worms and heartworms. Worming is one of the first health care issues pet owners need to address as pups and kittens are the most susceptible. As their name suggests, intestinal worms are parasites that live inside your pet's intestines.
A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is injected under your pet's skin. It can be done during a normal consultation. The microchip is embedded with a code unique to your pet and is the most effective form of permanent identification. This code is placed onto a national computer database, so it is particularly useful in the return of lost pets.

At first contact with Jess on the phone, I was optimistic. She was incredibly friendly and kind, showing great interest in the reason for our visit. After meeting the Vet, everything went downhill for our visit. Our dog was profiled for what i can assume is his breed, muzzled, asked to be held tight on his lead and collar, and pinned down during the examination. Our boy is incredibly gentle in nature and has not once shown signs of aggression. To be treated as we were, and told he has aggression issues is incredibly wrong. As a vet, you should be understanding of all breeds and give each dog a

Our beautiful girl Coco has been a patient of Dr Phil since she was a puppy. For 10 years now she has been given the highest quality of care and recently had surgery to remove a growth. The professionalism and care that Dr Phil, Jess and staff has been nothing sort of amazing. I would highly recommend Avondale Heights Vet Hospital.
Thank you Dr Phil for looking after out precious little girl.

We love the team at Avondale Heights Vet. They treat our fur babies with such love, kindness and respect. We have been going there for nearly 18 years, and even though we’ve lived more than 30 minutes away for… 17 of those years we wouldn’t go anywhere else. They have treated our dogs over the years for the simplest of things and yearly vaccinations, right through to the worst and saddest moments - and helped us through every single one. Our two current boys Billy and BB adore them (especially the cuddles they get from the vet nurses) and we are so grateful for them all.

Dr Hartney and his team are the absolute best! I’ve been taking all my animals here for over 25 years and no matter how far we move house from them, we always travel back to see him. He saved my dogs life and has the compassion and empathy that you need in a vet, I couldn’t give them a higher recommendation, they are awesome.

Worst Vet I have ever been too! I have been getting my dog treated for 10 years with the same medication. He wanted to run all the test we’ve already done & I know the answers. He made my old dog of 10 years get up on the table. We’ve never been asked to do that. A big staffy on a table doesn’t mix. Especially when I’m pregnant & can’t lift a 30+ kg dog!!
He be-littled me & made me feel stupid! Never will I recommend this vet! Worst experience ever!

My Shih Tzu Eddie has had recurrent eye problems for several months and I have tried all sort of treatments without much success. The vet at this clinic was personable and had a great way with Eddie who normally is extremely shy and nervous. The vet performed a thorough exam and asked all the right questions and prescribed a new set of eye drops. Eddies symptoms have since much improved and I have a happy dog again.
Friendly and competent staff - highly recommend this clinic.

I hadn't been to this clinic before 8months ago, I took my dog Zora staffie cross, in there about a lump on her back leg. After tests we found out it was cancer, the vet operated and took great care of my little 8yr old puppie. She has recovered now and I couldn't be happier with the service I received from these guys in avondale. The girls on the front desk were wonderful and the Vet Phil really cared about my dog. They were really great all round and I recommend anyone to take there animal there. Thank-you guys!
