The Western offers great budget accommodation for that weekend getaway, featuring 8 dorm style rooms. It's the feeling you get when you put on an old pair of jeans and find a $20 note in the pocket. Like when you are running late and the guy leaving the car park gives you his parking ticket with just enough time on it to save you buying one.
It's been a few years since a few local Ballarat boys gave The Western the old 'Joan Rivers' - a little nip here and a small tuck there - to bring this grand dame back to life and into the 21st century. Since then, we've gone from strength to strength, much like Joan herself. Just like when you and your brother / sister were at your nans, we want you to have fun, but without breaking anything.

At The Western, it's the usual spiel, with an unusual twist. Of course, we source local whenever possible. Of course it's seasonal and fresh. And of course there's something for everyone. But did you know we do food all day? Did you think we'd have staff that have been through rigorous, military-style training on perfectly matching whatever you choose to eat with a beer or wine from our extensive beverage list?
Where Blundstones meet Blahniks and chew the fat with Havianas. Moccasins didn't get in. When we were renovating all those years ago (two), we found those classic multi-coloured vinyl tiles under the carpet, under the tiles, under the carpet. And we almost kept them. It summed up what The Western public bar is all about - A little bit party.
Finish your drink as fast as you can then make a mad dash for the door to get to the front of the line for cabs, ignoring all the signs from that cute guy / girl across the bar? Take your time finishing your drink, deciding exactly how you are going to make your move on the previously-mentioned guy / girl, before security ask you politely to make your way to the door (our security are good like that).
