Illawarra Sleep Medicine Centre was the first private Paediatric Sleep Medicine Service in Australia operating since 1994.
In 2014 ISMC moved to its current location in Kenny Street opening 2 state of the art Sleep Laboratories in the Illawarra. A six bed unit is located on site at the Specialist Centre in Kenny Street Wollongong and operates Monday to Friday. A 4 bed unit is available at Figtree Private Hospital operating Monday to Friday.

Our dedicated team are committed to improving your sleep, health and wellbeing by coordinating management and treatment of all sleep disorders. Dr Terry Sands graduated in Medicine at the University of New South Wales in 1984 and specialised in Paediatric Medicine training at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children at Camperdown, Sydney and at the Sydney Childrens Hospital in Randwick, Sydney.
Disruption to the quality and or quantity of your sleep directly impacts upon daytime function affecting mood, concentration and memory. A sleep study is important because it has been shown that sleep disorders increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, stroke and diabetes. We sleep one third of our life.
Illawarra Sleep Medicine Centre is a consultatory and investigative facility available to patients from birth until old age. Patients and their families have an initial consultation and a sleep investigation (overnight polysomnography) is arranged if indicated. All paediatric sleep disorders are comprehensively covered by our service.

Bad experience from beginning to the end. First sleep doctor prescribed a medication that was indicated as not working on my referral, then a 250$ sleep study where the nurse told me that "'you need to sleep if you want results"when my referral clearly indicated that I was a chronic insomniac, was given the option to go home but no refund. Now appointment cancelled at the last minute for the results with a sleep doctor that appears not to be working long term anymore at the clinic, was asked to see my GP again to get a new referral for another sleep doctor so he can read me the results and off
